This is absolute trash! My first one died in
4 months. The second was dead right out of
the box and the third one will not resomd
now that it has been trigger once.

As I said the 49-1000 is poorly engineered
and tested. However, my third unit seemed to
heal itself when left unplugged without
batteries for several days. I though some of
you might be interested in some of my
findings so far. These points are not
covered in the manual.

Phone response function:
1: If no one responds to an alarm, after it
has dialed all six numbers, it will repeat
the dialing sequence starting with the first
number.
2: If the alarm has been answered but the
fault not corrected, the system will still
remain armed and will trigger the alarm
again if a new fault is detected.
3: When the alarm is answered, you cannot
control the system since it will not accept
the PIN. You must hang up, dial again the
system and then enter the PIN. The line may
be busy for a minute or so after the alarm
has been responded to.
Quirks:
A: I have a RadioShack Plug & Power console
set to A. With security console set --
siren  OFF and house code E, I find that if
I press the “all lights on” button on the
Plug & Power console, the security console
sounds a chime as if a door was opened.
B: Although the system cannot be armed from
the console when a door is open
without “clearing” the fault, it can be
armed in the “Away” mode via the telephone.
If the open door is closed and then opened
or any other door opened, it will trigger
the alarm.

Did you see the mseeage from MDM on how to
reset the 49-1000 PIN Code to default? Nice
information.
As I looked it was on page 4 of this forum.

More quirks, or maybe just my unit. After
all, the RS49-1000 does not appear to be
very stable and tests are not always
repeatable. The following is with the siren
ON.

Test results #1: If a sensor faults, the
call answered and simply terminated (after
pushing a key and listening) it will
continue to be armed. However, if the
faulted sensor if “open” for five minutes,
and then closed, a second opening of that
sensor will NOT retrigger the alarm. When a
different sensor is faulted, the alarm is
triggered WITHOUT the entry delay taking
place.

Test results #2: When I tried this with the
first fault being only 60 seconds, a second
fault of the same sensor retriggered the
alarm. When the second alarm called my
phone, I could not make it recognize the
fact that I answered and the siren was
audible in my phone constantly. After 5
minutes I was able to call the system
(before 5 minute the line would be busy)
disarm and rearm even though the sensor was
still faulted.

It is difficult for me to make these tests
because I have to have the system call my
cell and we have no reception where the
alarm is installed. I use a timer to break
the contact and the timer only has two on
off cycles. I will repeat test #2 tomorrow.
If anyone has any insight to this I would
appreciate their comments.

I ran four more tests.

TEST #1 Condition: Siren ON
1 minute fault sensor 1
10 minute wait
1 minute fault sensor 1

Result
First fault:
Alarm triggered, at end of message there was
silence, pushed a key, mike opened, ended
call. System behaved as expected.
Second fault:
Alarm triggered, mike was open and siren in
back ground, would not accept key to
acknowledge alarm. The alarm kept calling
phones. Five minutes later (after several
unanswered calls) I answered and the mike
was still open, the siren had ceased (4
minute time out) and my acknowledge signal
was accepted. Upon arriving home, alarm
triggered without entry delay and indicated
the door I entered as the fault.

pushed a key, ended call. System behaved as
expected except mike was open during alarm
message.

CONCLUSION:
1: If the siren is sounding with the mike
open, the system will not respond to control
signals from the phone.
2: If the fault is more than the 4 minute
timeout, the system clears the sensor that
initiated the fault.
3: If the fault is less than the time out
and a second fault occurs the system screws
up. It resets the siren timer, restarts the
siren,  and leaves the mike open.

The Board wouldn't accept all at once -- too
long.
