FloodLight is always ON!!!
« on: July 15, 2005, 10:36:42 AM »

just purchased the whole security set.
it came with floodlight.
I connected wires fine and preprogramed it
to sensors

however it's on 24/7
and only way to turn off the light is to
shut off it's power source.!!

now I'm wondering if it came defective.

Hi Jimmy,

Did you follow the instructions in the box:

1. Set RANGE control to MAX
2. Set DUSK control to LIGHT
3. Set TIME DELAY to 0.1
4. Set THIS UNIT switch to SENSOR
5. Turn off the power at the circuit
breaker. Wait ten seconds.
6. Turn power back on
7. Wait one minute, then walk in front of
motion dtector
8. Ensure detector does not see any motion
for 10 secs and check that the floodlight
turns off
9. set RANGE, DUSK and TIME DELAY as desired.

This worked for one light for me but NOT the
second. I have a call in to support, if I
get an answer I'll post it here.

Here's the response I got from Support at X-
10. They replied within two days!

"The first thing that you want to do is
check that the bulbs used in the PR511 are
not halogen or CFL, as that will cause the
lights to stay on.  If you are not sure what
kind of bulbs you are using, try switching
to standard indoor bulbs that you can see
the filament inside.

If turned on by a command from an X10
Controller, the Motion Monitor stays on
until turned off from and X10 Controller, if
necessary send an Off command to the Motion
Monitor from an X10 controller, returning
the Motion Monitor to normal cycling mode.

Also, if the Motion Monitor is accidentally
powered off (from a wall switch that
controls the power to it) while the
floodlights are on, it will stay on when the
power is reapplied. After dark, (depending
on the position of the dusk setting) trigger
the Motion Monitor by walking in front of
it, then after the delay time you’ve set the
floodlights will turn off and return to
normal operation."

The second fix worked for me, and I do have
Halgoen bulbs..

What is the total watage? I have had the
little latching relay melt (I believe the
frame is made of polyethelene) once because
the heat generated from the lights rose up
and overheated the unit.  I remounted the
unit under the lights.

I have had a diode fail and the light was on
and stade on.

I have also had a transistor fail and provide
97 volts to the lights at all time.

I am currently looking for a solid state
relay that the PR511 could push so I couls
isolate my Quarts Halogens
