I had the other problem. A bulb blowing out
would short the socket rocket. Making it
useless as the bulb was always on. Is the
setup in question in a particularly harsh
environment? Regular type bulbs?

Given the design of the bulbs, I'm at a loss
to explain it. I can't see how the SR would
effect power, or affect bulb life.

All I can suggest is testing without the
socket rocket, or a different bulb for that
environment.

Just outside near my front door in new
jersey. I had regular bulbs in there before
I used the SR, so its got to be the Sr but
can't figure out how its affecting bulb life

Is the Socket Rocket rated for outdoor use?
If this is for an outdoor fixture, I would
guess that you have a switch inside. Why not
install an X10 switch in place of your
standard switch? It would then be inside,
and protected, and you will still have X10
control.

X10Nut; Documentetion is fuzzy. Kind of
implies that outside is OK if not in direct
weather and pointed down so the rubber
gasket is near the top. I recently saw
another post here where the temperature made
the socket rocket flaky and it was not too
cold. I believe X10 uses parts that are
rated for no lower than 32 degrees F. If one
of the X10 brand Troubleshooting Manuals is
correct.

Haveing played around with the Socket
Rocket, I don't think I'd put it in cold
weather.  It dosen't strike me as that
robust.

I'm not sure putting the bulb in the frig
for a while, then testing it, would be a
good idea.

Can't use an X10 switch because I have a
double switch panel, one for the outside
lights and one controls the chandelier...

Rob,

What do you mean by a double switch panel? I
have a triple switch panel (3-gang box with
3 switches in it). I have 2 standard
switches for inside lights and one x10
switch for my outside lights. Installs/Works
just fine for several years now.

If you have a duplex switch (1-gang box with
2 switches double-stacked), then you're
right, there's nothing you can do. Except
maybe you could put one of the in-box
modules in the outdoor fixture's box.

Rob,

Here is a link to the smarthome website.
These are the inline modules I mentioned.
http://www.smarthome.com/2250aw.html

this one is a relay switch. there are
dimming versions available too. There might
be a link to the dimming version at the
bottom of the page.
