garage door monitoring
« on: December 30, 2005, 02:23:15 PM »

I am trying to figure out the best way to
moniotr if my garage door was left open and
I am inside the house. Is there a way to
have one of the door/window sensors to be
mounted on the garage door it self and have
a chime or light inside the house to go on
or off whenever the garage door is open or
closed. Any ideas.
Thanx

Good Evening,

I used a magnetic read switch and used that to turn on a RED led in the bedroom area.  Whenever the door is open the LED is on.  Side benefit we know when the kids get home! This hard wired system consists of a few feet of wire, a plug supply, a resistor and a LED.

Enjoy

You could Autocloser Garage Door Timed Closer.............

............Then why would you need a monitor?

You know..... I have thought about that myself. But I would really like to intergrate the garage door into my HA system. I really think AHP... with the plug-ins could accomplish the same thing (auto close). Plus the door could become part of an alarm system to call my cell phone if the door is forced open while I am not home.

Homelink use to offer an X10 based garage door open/close sensor, and a plug in status module.   You can still find them, occasionally, for sale on eBay.  That is where I got mine.

I have one status module in my family room, and one in my master bedroom.

Here is one of the few remaining online descriptions of it.

Yes you could go with either option.. And I'm sure there is tons of other options

Options are good! Much better to have options than not being able to figure out how to do something.
