Would like to Add something like what is on
STAR TREK: The Next Generation - being able
to control lights and appliances with your
voice. I know this will require the
computer to be connected up all the time
and have a microphone available but it
would be so neat. Anybody know who would
might be able to put together a small
communicator button (wireless mic) that we
could hookup to the computer?

Donald; voice recognition is typically
supplied by the operating system, or an
add-on application to the OS.  Funny, OS/2
Warp 4 in late 1996 came with voice
recognition, but after being forced to
convert to Windows I'm still waiting for it
again in 2004.

The only problem is your program has to be
able to recognize that you have another
input device - other than the KBD,
Mouse/pointing device. Most programs may
act upon generic inputs but some commands
can not be accomplished unless the program
is setup for it.

No, I disagree.  The voice-control
application, or the OS, recognizes certain
voice commands, can read the screen text, and
operates the mouse/keyboard on your behalf.
The application that you're controlling, e.g.
AHP, doesn't know you are not operating them.
