Door / Window sensor
« on: November 20, 2004, 04:06:52 PM »

Is there a way to make the CM15A react to
the "Door/Window sensors"? I would love my
system to turn on/off lights as a door is
opened or closed.

Sylvain,

I'm afraid not. I asked a similar question
in the past and X10 support indicated it
wasn’t possible. I was hoping to combine
the window/door contact and a motion sensor
to determine when I was coming and going.
This way a light would turn on or off
accordingly.

They could create a module to support this,
but the CM15A doesn’t.

That is completely rediculous! All you have
to do is have AHP recognize that there has
been a "change of state", which it already
does really. Two way modules report if they
are on or off right? Well...if door sensor
module CHANGES from OPEN to CLOSED then turn
light OFF. 90% of the competition handles
simple operations like this easily.

It's kinda like how with Macros and Timers
you SHOULD be able to "If light has been on
for xx minutes, turn it off".

I am not entirely certain but I think Smart
Home has a module that will report it's
status and can be used with a door/window
magnetic switch. It should work the same as
a remote in that you would be sending a
code that AHP/CM15A could respond to.

Jim,
My problem is that the "door/window" sensor
does not send the same RF signal than the
Eagle Eye motion detector for instance. It
sends a proprietary signal that only the X10
security system can handle. The CM15A sees
nothing :(

You would have to get another X10 module -
the security sensors would by thier
requirments be completly separate from the
x10 system. It helps when all the
information is known as to what you would
like to do. The security system sensors
would and should not interact with other
systems because of the possiblity of false
triggering - I can understand why X10 said
they wouldn't do anything. Go with seperate
sensors and you will have what you want
without problems.

Donald,

X10 use to have a module that would do
this. I have a couple I got from Radio
shack years ago. Radio Shack called it
a “UNIVERSAL INTERFACE”. I did not see it
on X10’s web site. It is not the same as
the “UNIVERSAL MODULE” that they do list. I
use these in several locations connected to
magnetic contacts and they work fine.

Are you aware that ANY x10 motion sensor can
be modified to function exactly like your
device in about 15 minutes with the
window/door magnet switch (reed) and a 10K
resistor?  Google to X10 Mods and you'll
find loads of cool things you can do to X10
modules very easily that will not only make
them do a lot of the things that boggle the
mind that x10 left them out, but it will
also void your warranty. :)  Gee wiz,
somehow voiding the warranty on a $12 Motion
sensor just doesn't seem to be relavent
here.  :) (bought BRAND new on eBay they're
$12). I think they might be a bit mnore
other places.
