Voice Module
« on: May 13, 2005, 03:58:25 PM »

A voice "module" that can be activated
directly or via macros as any other module.
The module accepts text or can be pointed to
a wave file, which is played through the
computer speakers when activated. Attach the
cpu audio out to intercoms, etc. throughout
the house, and any action -- doorbell,
drapes opening, sensor detection -- could
be "announced."

Take a look in the Software Developers Kit -
there is a solution for the VOX module for
you.

Tnx, Donald, I'll take a look. But my
software programming days ended long ago
with Assembly Language.

Took a look and only found voice control.
I'm suggesting a voice/sound module that
will play audio. Did I miss it?

The only reason I pointed you in that
direction is because it just was posted.
This might be only half of the solution you
are looking for. Goto accessx10.com and
look for a program called x10dispatch -
this should solve the other half of your
problem. Sory but you might have to do some
programming to get the two to work
together. I don't thing X10 will be working
on a solution to this idea - but maybe
someone else could. Any Takers?

Tnx, again, Donald. That's far more than I
need, but appreciate the help. For now,
when someone's at the front door, I'll just
yell down to my wife! Tnx!

Bill H,

Donald is correct. X10dispatch will do
exactly what you are looking for. I have
been using it for a couple of months and it
works fine and only takes a minimal amount
of time and effort to set up. I know it
works when the AHP software is not running.
I do not know if it works while the AHP
software is running as I have a problem
with my set up. When ever I have AHP
running I can get no sound from my
computer. I am using a Usb sound card and
this may be part of my problem.

I agree with you though that X10 should
incorporate sound into their software and
it was a request I had made a when AHP
first came out.

Good luck

Jim

check out:
http://www.x10.com/news/msgb/index.cgi?
board=ahp-
sdk&action=read&postid=000005&topid=504&numof
= simple program but it allows you to voice
activate your modules. That with x10dispatch
should work since you can set x10dispatch to
run a command when a module is tripped as
well as tell you it was tripped.Once started
you can send voice commands!
Jim: both AHP & dispatch will run together
without problems.(provided AHP isn't acting
up on you as yours does)
