Poor Quality and Support - don't buy these products
« on: December 23, 2005, 07:09:39 AM »

The quality of the Security product I
purchased as well as the Customer and
Technical Support of this Company is a
negative 10.  Don't waste any money on these
products and buy elsewhere.  I've sent
several emails to Technical Support and never
heard back.  It would be much better to spend
more money on something else that at least works

It sounds like you are frustrated.  Sorry
about that.  If you encountered some
problems why don't you let us know and we
will see if we can help.

Yes - I am very frustrated which is exactly
why I posted on this forum.  I've sent
multiple messages to Customer Support asking
why the system goes off for either no
apparent reason or a loud/shrill noise sets
it off.  I received no response until today
and the response was how to set up a
Telephone Dialer or a Voice Message - neither
one answering the problem I am having.   For
your reference the problem number is: THR2437700

Mark, I empathize with you.  Maybe, you and
I can narrow down the problem.  After the
alarm is set off and you turn off the alarm,
the red LED to the right of the word ARMED
should be rapidly flashing and one of the
zone LEDs should be steady on.  The
_door/window sensor or _motion detector for
that zone LED that is steady on is the one
that tripped the alarm. MOST IMPORTANT...Is
it the same one every time?  Is there a
pattern? Now...it could be defective or it
could be that the gap between the magnetic
contacts is just slightly too wide apart in
the case of a d/w sensor or that a motion
detector is sensing heat from a source in
the house including furnace registers or sun
from a window.  If it is a detector, turn it
around to see if the alarm still falses.  If
it is a d/w sensor try to close the gap (it
may be when a door or winow rattles it opens
the gap just that much too much...3/8 of an
inch is the most I like to use.

Hey, hope you solve your problems.
But, i've used the x10 system with very
little bothersome problems, just details
that end up not really messing up the fact
that this system I use will activate when
tested (I usually test twice a month).
For its price ( and compare to a brink
system ), it's a good deal. And if it does
start having problems, I could easily
replace it by going to a store, or for even
less cost, by ebay.  I just suggested one
to a relative who may be moving by herself
to an apartment in a big city with a bad
reputation.

I've had my system running for a long time
without too many problems.  The biggest
problem is getting people to disarm it before
opening things up, but that would happen with
any alarm.  It has never failed to go off
when it should, which is the most important
thing.

I bet it is the gap or a motion sensor like
the man says.  The other thing I think could
go wrong is that the wires to the sensors
could become intermittent if the screws are
loose or the wire breaks inside the
insulation.  They are kind of flimsy.

Well I tell ya I'm willing to bet the problem is the motion detectors. I've gotten three false alarms in the last two months. only thing I can say is that these things are very poorly designed. Your best bet is to use the TWO Movements Mode but be careful I ordered that 8 pack a while back and only two actually work in the two movements mode. The rest of them I can actually walk up to from across the room and remove the batteries with out them going off! Now if you can find one that actually works you shouldn't get any false alarms, but before I trust my valuables to them I would test it thoroughly to make sure it really really works . Yes I agree the DS7000 is a good deal but only if it works! When I first got mine I had to send it back four times for various things before I got one that really worked. The last two that were returned had a bad recording module the recording you would make were so bad you could barely make it out. The first one just died after about 6 months when I came home one day it was just buzzing luckily no one broke in on that day. The one I have now on the other hand did save the day when I did have a break in and the thiefs got nothing! This took place at night and my neighbor said my house "looked like it was alive" with all the lights flashing (all my lights are x10 controlled, I just love home automation) and I also had three large powerhorns in the same room as my 4,000 dollars stereo system he said he saw them running from the house before he even had a chance to call the police, so yes when it works it's great but this stuff is made in China and they have the poorest quality in the world, and it shows. Lastly after 5 and I'm not exaggerating returns I've finally gotten two Video Commander2's that work all the rest wouldn't even learn the motion detector codes these worked right out of the box. ABOUT TIME!!  >:(
