extending door/motion sensor to shed
« on: April 11, 2006, 10:22:17 AM »

I have an x-10 system for a do it yourselfer its great for the price and does a good job(tired of reading all negative) anyway i just added a shed probably out of range so i would like to wire in a sensor.  I thought ahead and ran extra wires to the shed.  What i want to do is put a window sensor in my garage (close to base) and extend the magnetic switch wires to the shed for the door.  My question is how far can i extend it or better yet open up the motion sensor and extend the sensor part.  Anybody tried this yet let me know.  thanks

You might want to try a repeater sold here on x10.com just do a search. Also you said you're tired of all the negative you obviously haven't owned a lot of x10 equipment, If you buy enough or are unlucky enough to purchase some items that are prone with problems you're understand. Like in my example having to send 2 video commanders back five times before I got to that actually worked!! I would of given up but I had already bought three cameras (which to x10 credit I feel are really excellent for the money and my experience trouble free)  and needed the vcr commanders for the recording. Things like this are extremely frustrating this took a year to straighten out and causes a lot of people to become incensed and I think rightfully so.
