AM486 on all the time, cannot change state
« on: May 21, 2006, 09:31:26 PM »

Bought new AM486 Appliance Module, it is in the on state all the time, cannot turn off.  Is the module defective?  Is there a way to reset it?  HELP!

Try plugging it in the same outlet as your AHP or controller box.

Many are shipped in the on state from factory. As Steve indicated if the X10 signal is not reaching that module it may look bad. If the module will not switch even on the same outlet as the controller. It maybe bad.

Have changed to same outlet, not the answer......I'm trying to use the module with a Simon III house alarm system.  It says it will control X10 modules, I'm wondering if there is one model that this sytem needs to work with ?    Are there different model numbers I need to be aware of ?

Do you have the appliance module set to the same House Code / Unit Code that your Simon III is set to?

If the console can send out an X10 PowerLine signal and you have the module on that address it should be controlled. Exception is the X10 PowerHorn Sirens. They trigger on an constant cycle of All Lights On All Lights Off or an On Off cycle on the House Unit Code it is set to.
If the console is sending All Lights On All Lights Off or All Units Off. Appliance modules will not respond to an All Lights On command. Safety thing I believe as we don't want maybe a electric heater to turn one with an All Lights On code.
