Don't know where to start.
« on: June 23, 2006, 10:03:21 PM »

Hello, I wasn't sure where to post this, so I apologize if this is the wrong area. If so, please let me know where to go. I bought a bunch of X10 equipment, including plugs, cameras, switches, and computer interface equipment a while ago. We then had some family issues that caused me to have to put everything on the back burner for several months. Today, I tried to take some time to put everything together, and I just didn't know where to begin. I don't fully understand what I have, and I don't understand how to put everything together. I am kind of in a "blank stare" mode and just need to get kick-started I hope. My goal was to interface light switches, plugs and cameras into my computer so that I could control them, record images, set timers, etc from there. Looking at the owner's manuals I have, they are very basic and don't help me with the overall picture. Installing the electronics won't be a problem for me, and I am pretty good with computers. But, I just don't know where to begin. Is there a place where I can go to have someone help me sort all this out? I feel like I'm looking at a thousand piece puzzle all in pieces and can't find the corners. :)

Once I confirm this is the right place, I can give you any information needed to assist me.

Thank you very much.

For a starter, post a complete list of the components you have.  Include the model number from the label on each component so we'll know exactly what you have.  If some of the components were packaged as a kit, group those components under the kit model number.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Like Charles said let us know what you have and we can help you figure out which of your pieces are the corners and borders. We also might be able to make some suggestions to fill in any of the missing pieces if your puzzle isn't quite complete.
(Hey you started the puzzle analogy.  ;) )
