novice user asking for help
« on: July 06, 2006, 08:33:32 AM »

i had landscape lighting installed with x10 AHP and a model CM15A.  I believe i have a timer set for ON at Dusk and OFF at 11:55 pm and have downloaded to the Interface.  The issue I have is the interface does not turn on or off the lights automatically.  I can do so with the remote but have not successfully seen the interface do it automatically.

just now I tried clearing the memory from the transformer and then saved the timer again - hoping for success tonight.  Note that I do run the transformer "disconnected" from my pc (it's in another room).

Any suggestions?  This has been pretty frustrating.

thanks in advance for any help.

Can you do it with the remote when the CM15A is disconnected from the computer and plugged in at its other location? If not your problem could be either noise or phase coupling. You will find many posts on this forum that discuss both of these problems.

yes, i can turn the lights on and off with the remote when the cm15a is plugged in at it's not-connected-to-the-pc location.  this tells me the cm15a is operating/transmitting the signal to the module on the light transformer but just not doing so on its own/automatically per the timer.

would love any other suggestions or tips to help troubleshoot

With the CM15A connected to the PC and AHP running can you switch the lights from the graphics module on the screen?
If you can you may want to try leaving it connected and see if it works that way.
You could also make a test timer, say 5 min in the future to turn the lights on then off after a minute, and watch the lights.

Stupid question #1: do you have batteries installed in the CM15A?
After you download are you unplugging CM15A from the wall then moving it to the other room?
Make sure you have the proper location and timezone setup in Tools, Interface Configuration.

I deleted my reply  as you already covered all of the things I was thinking of. I did not think of the batteries though. That sounds like something I would do.

i tried with cm15a connected to pc and ahp running and cannot switch the lights from the screen.  i had the cm15a plugged into an extension cord though - would that make a difference?

i like the test timer idea - will try that tomorrow if there is no joy tonight at dusk.

re: stupid question, that's not a stupid question at all.  I do have batteries, but to be honest had removed them prior to plugging into the pc (was told i needed to in order for the pc to recognize the device) but was putting them back in AFTER i unplugged the cm15a from the wall next to the pc.  The owners manual tells me the batteries are only for keeping the current time and not keeping the saved settings/timers, but that may be my issue.  I re-downloaded the timer to the cm15a, put batteries back in, then unplugged and moved to another room and have tested from there that i can turn on/off with the remote.

got my fingers crossed for tonight's trial run....  will update tomorrow.

thanks for the suggestions.

it worked last night!  my guess is it was the fact that i put the batteries back in AFTER unplugging so it lost the time or even the timers.   I'll consider it a true success with another couple nights of lights and will post back if i have any issues.

thanks for your help
