What is the "Macro Library"?
« on: July 23, 2006, 01:06:22 AM »

I just discovered the option to "Open Macro Library" under "Edit". What is it suppose to do? For me it just says "No Macros Installed".

I noticed it a couple of days back and am puzzled myself. Hopefully someone will shed some light on this mystery.

As far as I can tell, it is a way for X10 to sell us something else.

If you click the help button and then click "Using the Macro Library" in the left-hand panel, it says "If you have purchased or downloaded a Macro for your library, access it by choosing "Open Macro Library" from the Edit menu."

It also says that "Macros in the Library are designed by X10 to add new specific functions to your ActiveHome system."

Smells like another "buy the add-on" to me!

You are right, Bill. I looked at the Help pages and it does seem that this is positioned to create additional macro-based products. Thank you for looking into it.

So I can look forward to another link to the X10 site. This time I'll be able to invoke my own pop up ad right from AHP. Great.
What I found amusing was the "No Macros Installed" message since I have more macros than I have things I'm controlling.

Yes, but only macros X10 installs count.   :o ;)

It is hard to imagine how a library would be useful - given the limited capabities of the macros module. Maybe the library would provide access to functions beyond the Smart Macros module. It would be nice to have the capability of a rudimentary scripting language with the ability to define your own variables and some very basic arithmetic capabilities.

Did a little digging and found this on Macro Library.

"Version 3.200

Added a Macro Library feature to support wizard configuration of pre-built macro/module sets. "

"Using the Macro Library
The ActiveHome Macro Library is a way to configure and and install new macros into your ActiveHome system. Macros in the Library are designed by X10 to add new specific functions to your ActiveHome system. You don't have to create them; you just tell them how to work in your system.

If you have purchased or downloaded a Macro for your library, access it by choosing "Open Macro Library" from the Edit menu. The Library and Library Wizard will take you through installing your new macros."

Does anyone know if X10 has any of these special Macros available yet? I am going to guess that if they did they would be advertising the heck out of them to sell. Maybe there are none right now because the software is still to unstable. If you purchased a macro and it only worked sometimes or wasn't consistant people would want there money back. Will have to wait for the software to improve before we see macros from X10 is my guess.

I saw the same info about the macro library. To my knowledge, these macros are not available yet. And I have not seen any ads yet about these.

I did indeed buy the Macro Library from X10, installed and registered it but alas also get "NO MACROS INSTALLED" when trying to open it.

I've never tried, is it worth my effort to try to contact X10 ssupport

I think the macro library is for future premade macros from X10? I don't think its used right now and not sure when it will be. You may try contacting X10 to see what they say and then come back here and share what you learn.  ;D
