Stronger Receiver?
« on: July 29, 2006, 11:17:07 AM »

Is there a stronger receiver availible? I seem to get a lot of line static on my TV and PC and my cameras are only about 25 feet away from the receiver.

Are there any tips I should know about if there isnt a stringer receiver availible?

Do you have a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone or wireless network for your computer? If so try it with them off as a test. They are known to sometimes interfear with wireless cameras. Also double check that the antennas are pointed correctly and that the channel switch A-D on the camera and receiver are on the same channel. On the camera it is under the little rubber hole plug.

I do have a wireless network.

What steps can I take to improve the signal I am getting. I am currently getting the best signal I can get naturally making sure all the antennas are pointing the correct positions.

As a short test only. Try to shut down the network. If things get better then some have tried different channels on the Wireless Network as most have more choices then X10s four. If turning it off doesn't help then we may have to dig further. Also some microwave ovens have been reported to mess up the cameras signals, though I have never seen that myself.

I know Best Buy sells signal boosters for wireless devices running on a GHZ frequency.

Ever heard of this helping the signal strength? The main problem I have right now is I have 1 camera on each corne of the house. Naturally this poses a problem because it has created a triangle as far as everything feeding back to the antena.

So I wondered if I got a signal booster would it help with the one camera that I have the most interferance with since the booster works in a 360 degree pattern.

Any thoughts?

I'll also try to change the channel on the wireless network as you suggested. That will take some time to play with.

I have not read of anyone doing that, but did see a construction project where the user replaced the antenna on the receiver with a new one. That voids the warranty. Maybe someone who has tried a booster can add more data. Not 100% on this but I think the mod was written up in.

Installing a signal booster made no noticeable difference.

I turned off my wireless router and my cordless phone and did not notice any increase in the signal either.

Guess I am just stuck with what I have for that one camera.

The booster if designed for a network, may not handle video signals as they normally do network data. OH well senders on opposite sides of the receiver antenna may cause that problem.

I noticed a lot of static and interference when I placed the receiver indoors. In my case I have cameras in front the house and in the back. I placed the receiver outside close to the cameras and ran a RCA cable back to the PC and the TV. This gives me a pretty solid picture for the cameras in the back. For the front cameras also I put in a different receiver working on frequency B. This goes to a video sender which beams it at the receiver in the back on frequency A and from there it goes into the video interface to the PC. As long as the receiver is indoor I could not go more than a few feet without degrading the image quality.

There are other things besides other 2gig wireless devices which can case problems with reception. Large metal objects between the cam and receiver, bad connections on video cables or coaxial cables  I'm guessing something like a garage door or a fridge or large filing cabinet is causing the problem since removing the other wireless devices did little to improve reception! Can you move that cam or reciever a few feet in any direction to see if that helps?

It's *SUPER* easy:

  • TYPE: [u r l =X Y[/u r l]' into your reply (omit the SPACES between U R L)
    .
  • REPLACE: X with the URL [cut-n-paste it from your IE (or whatever) Address Window]
    .
  • REPLACE: Y with whatever NARRATIVE you wish to display
[PERSONALLY, I *HATE* those folks that post LINKs *WITHOUT* any NARRATIVE! How can I decide if I want to go to "www.123.us/goodstuff.html' *IF* I don't know, in advance, *EXACTLY* where I'm going?!?  ???

Reply WITH QUOTE on some of my posts (you can CANCEL OUT) and review how I've done it... Piece of Cake!  ;D
