X10 Web Site and products
« on: August 11, 2006, 03:31:02 AM »

I am a new visitor to X10.com and the X10 products.  I am searching for a wireless home security camera system that will have multipule cameras with instant on, low light, motion detection, high res, record options, and web access to view live cams.   What I have found here is a large confusing, contiversiale mess.  Let me break it down for you:
1.  I found the web site to be much less than professional.  Many ads and specials without any equiptment specifications at all.  In fact, some of the links on the "what's icluded" areas of specials take you to more specials or pop up ads.  I want specs, not how cheap it is.
2.  Information on products is very low.  This scares me.  Any link you click regarding info on a product or software gives you the bare minimum.
3.  I joined the forums to try to get moe info.   If the information was available from the web site, it would have saved me the trouble, but it was not.  All I wanted was basics like cam res, FPS, recording options, web viewing options, and compatability problems with other wireless equiptment. None of that is available on the site.  However, the forums do covered all of my concerns and have scared me away from X10 products as a whole. From what I have read on the forums, X10 has poor or low quality equipment.  Bad tech support, both by e-mail and phone, no response or very generic responses, like reading the install manual to you.
4.  The forums are also filled with the same problems from consumers over and over with no company/tech support responses. WOW.  I have never seen this from any company.
5.  Enough said.  I am one of many of thousands, if not millions, of viewers of this web site that got so discouraged they just moved on.  I just thought you should know.

You maybe able to get some add information or at least see how they work; by downloading the users manuals.
X10.com in the support area user manuals tab.
Also X10 Knowledgebase may have added data: http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Main_Page

Thank you for taking your time to register and post your comments here! I'm sure many have moved on without giving any feedback.

Many of us feel the same feel the same way as you. Most of the long timers have taken their business elsewhere. I would suggest that you send your comments to X10 Pro and ask him to forward them to X10 marketing and management.

But that doesn't help and from a marketing point of view, doesn't make sense.  I may have made a bad purchase a few days ago when I bought the Pro2000 security console instead of the the DS7000.  I won't know until later today when the package comes and I try to install but if x10 would just put up basic specs, tolerances, etc., I would know I have the right product or avoided getting the wrong one.

Further more, the only information available for the Pro2000 is the "print-style" add.  I didnt' find out until later that I had to go to a different site to get the manual.  It should have to be if I'm buying through x10.com

I'm forming the opinion that X10 products are cheap inferior products based off their website and the management of the company.

this is a logical conclusion given your post and other threads in this forum.

Oh come on now! I have defended X10's Web Site in the past.... but you've got to be out of your mind. Does no one there (at least) have a sister or mother?

The use of pictures and ads on the x10 site have gotten way out of hand and it should all be cleaned up. I agree with you, it isn't very professional.

Maybe the person posting the ads should change jobs and work for Victoria Secrets.  :'
