Original Airpad 7 and IceCreamSandwich
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:54:43 PM »

A question for all of us that bought the first version of the AirPad.  Will ICS work on the device and if so how do you get it installed?  I'm fairly happy with me pad, the price drop hacked me off and then another.

I've been told X10 is working on a installer for this.
I'm sure more details will follow once they have all the code inplace.
I've been told there will be no TTS or VR configuration and no  google market for this.
However since the google market install posted on my site works with the AirPad P with ICS it should work for us. ::) :'

I hope you'll keep us up to date on this. Having an installer would definitely make things easier. Have you talked with x10 on whether this would void the warranty or not? Or whether they might be interested in using it to customer support? Part of the reason I bought the airpad (among many features I liked) was it being billed as being Droid 4 upgradable.

There are still plans for X10 to release this to us free of charge.
The issue is the manufacturer, Once they have something then X10 can get to work making it available.
As for warranty it has allready expired on the originals.

I am waiting for the ICS upgrade for the original 7 inch Airpad 1. I beleive that I`m not the only one. I sincerely hope that X10 will not let us down on this one. Informations read on the X10 forum  pointed out that the Airpdad would be upgradable, that was the major reason I bought it. Was this an early adopter mistake?

Will it install ICS also for the Airpad 7p I bought in early December 2011?

When ICS is installed with the installer will the apps be erased, or will they all stay on there?  I understand some apps do not work under ICS that do work in GB. A compatibility checker would be nice.

No.
There is a separate build for the 7P as it was made by a different manufacturer
See the sticky for 7P ICS &GB images http://forums.x10.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=h59e2l14chi8ttrltr1gsvslv7&topic=26336.msg148626#msg148626

All,

I want to update that status of the ICS release for the original airpad.

Upgrading the Android OS involves a lot of work. The CPU manufacturer needs to do work, as does the motherboard manufacturer, the manufacturer of the tablet, and X10. There is a delay somewhere in that chain. This software is still being worked on, and is still expected to be released, but I cannot give an ETA at this time.

I would not have purchased this device if I wasn't assured ahead of time that it would receive a fully-functional version of Ice Cream Sandwich at some point.

If one isn't forthcoming, then I expect X10 to offer full refunds since my purchase was based on a promise that wasn't fulfilled. Even if the breakdown is with some other part of the supply chain, X10 guaranteed the update would be coming, so my fingers will point squarely to this company.

I'm still holding out hope for the update. I'm just putting my concerns on record now so X10 can prepare for the possible customer service complaints (I'm still angry that I didn't receive the device for over a month after my credit card was billed, so it would be nice if they were more on the ball for future issues to make up for it).

Will ICS for AirPad 7 be rooted out-of-the-box? And will there be a netfilter module for ipfw?
