Trying to deal with a new WS467. The dealer told me it was a soft start, But even after i defined it as a LM14A it was acting the same. I also do not have any of the extended code things in the activity monitor just (E brite %50).
As it would seem the only way to turn oin my overhead light is to call it a WS467 And go 4% then 100%
I didn't get a soft start did I? Though from the wall switch it ramps up great.

Sure sounds like you have Soft Start. If you can control brightness locally at the switch, you have SoftStart.
With the newer Soft Start switches also have "Resume Dim", an "ON" command ( or a tap on the switch button) will turn the light on at what ever level it was previously turned off at.

If this is a new switch then it is a soft start. If you press (not hold just press and release)m the button on the switch it will ramp up to the brightness
The ws467 has a setting that if you shut the switch off when it is dimmed it will only come back on to that dim setting. So yes if it is shut off at a setting other then 100% you will have to turn it on then give it a bright command to go full again.

what does the poll button do?

what does the poll button do?
It only works on the old "2-Way" Appliance module and Lamp module, now discontinued. A poll request to the module would trigger a transmission from the 2-way module (ON, OFF, etc). Was an excellent feature since it provided positive feed back of module status, but alas X10 did not sell enough of them so the products died. I believe the only module X10 makes now which will provide "status" is the RR501, which they will probably kill soon.
