Don't know why I never thought of this before, but as some of you all know, I have powerflashes hooked to my doorbells.
Ringing the doorbell takes snapshots of the doors, and ramps up the lighting.
I also use Dispatcher to play a WAV file when it rings. Up until last night, the front door was the "Jetson's Doorbell", but seeing the Halloween season upon us, I edited the first couple of bars of "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" into a WAV.
This can be done with lots of the 3rd party software here (BVC, X10WavPlayer, PC Companion), but I like Dispatcher's feature which shuts down the sound at certain hours and the fact that it prevents "sound spamming".
I'm pretty sure that Bach wouldn't mind, so if there's interest in the said sound file, I may post it to thisautomatedhouse.com.

Cool! 8)
I want the intro song to Disney's Haunted Mansion, myself. :)%

Not thunder sounds and a strobe light? You inspire my home automation.

The strobe light wouldn't be that difficult. Editing the audio to merge the music and thunder sounds could be hard.

No... not really. Whatever H/U code is assigned to the appliance module or TM751 that controls the strobe. then the same H/U code is used in a listener in BVC (http://www.davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm). Then in BVC (http://www.davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm) you assign the listener to play the thunder wav file.

The problem I was speaking of is in merging the thunder.wav into the music.wav, so the thunder was a sound effect while the music was still playing. ;)

Ah, but you forgot that audio and/or music is one of my professions. ;)
Not quite sure what Disney uses in the mansion, but I'd say that it is the aforementioned piece by Bach.

No, I didn't forget at all. Just saying that "many users" don't have the tools / skills to merge the music and SFX. ;)
Actually the Disney Haunted Mansion music is totally different than Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. Mind you, the Toccata and Fugue is still really cool! I scared the crap out of a coworker a few Halloweens ago when I made the Toccata and Fugue the Windows start up sound on his computer! ;) rofl

I put the WAV file up over here:

Ok, I had to copy you Knightrider. I was getting dirty looks from my wife when she saw me gear up with my tools to run more wires in the attic but laughed when the work was done and I had her walk out on the front porch and try it. :)% Awesome idea!! #:)

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllll. (obscure Jim Runyon reference) (http://www.radio-ranch.com/chickenman.html)
Had so much fun with the Halloween thing, that I decided to change the doorbell sound with the seasons. I edited the link above and will continue to add more WAV's as the seasons progress.
New ideas are always welcome.

Is your sound links bad?
Your really selling me on the idea of the Home Automation DoorBell. I've already hacked my chime to trigger a powerflash module to setup your "DoorBell Cam Mod". These are awesome ideas Knightrider.

Is your sound links bad?
No, just moved from the Halloween page, to a page dedicated to the doorbell.
-
Dave's not the only one having trouble with the links. I'd like to hear the last two wav's also but the link from the doorbell page sends me to a 404 Page not found error. B:(
-
I too get 404 error.
-
Why not take it one stage further? Have your doorbell play different sounds automatically based on time of year / time of day / occupancy sensing / weather conditions.
Some simple macro building should suffice - the main problem would be recognising when/if it's the doorbell or the kids playing WAV files rofl

The emergency sound is still a bad link: (http://thisautomatedhouse.com/xml/wfxdirect/res;jsessionid=39F4FC9C4BD220889EEE6924E2310DDF.TC126a?name=Emergency.wav)

Was fixed for about 15 minutes. Had to call India yet again. Is really fixed now.

It was worth every bit of your effort Knightrider. Your DoorBell Sounds (http://thisautomatedhouse.com/Doorbell.html) are great!
