Title: newbie user queries on Mac
Post by: albertf on August 07, 2010, 10:47:49 PM
I have had an X10 kit sitting around for a long time and tried to get it setup on a mac.  Several queries:

1.  I have an old X10 CM11A controller hooked up to a Mac Pro with a Keyspan serial adapter. I'm running the demo version of Thinking Home.  A simple macro will turn on the light to a Lamp Module ML465 (HD-465) for lights on the same floor of a single family house however it doesn't work on the next level of the house.  Could this be a wiring problem or can it be addressed in the software?  I'm hesitant to get a newer kit if it won't work in house wiring?

2.  What's the most reliable software to run x10 macros on a mac?

thanks

Very well could be a power line signal problem.
Noise, signal sucker or on the homes other phase.
Few helpful sites for troubleshooting and explanations.

Not sure what you mean by "most reliable". The software does not determine how well the X10 signal probagates throughout your home.

That said; "Xtension" from Sand Hill Engineering (www.shed.com) is pretty good. I'm pretty sure they have a trial verision and also sure it will interface with CM11, CM15 and several other interfaces.
