How can I limit my liability incase the
woust happens,I get sued by the
homeowner.Does X-10 give vendors
indorsments? Has anyone been sued for
installing a system wrong,or they could say
it was, how would prove it? before i can
install my $2000.00 worth of systems I need
insurance ,that insurance companies say is
not avialable?
As a manufacturer, we do not endorse our
contractors as they are independent from
X10. I am not aware of any X10 Installer
being sued. One site that helps me with
issues like this, is nolo.com. Plus you can
check out liability or licensing information
with a quick google search or through your
local business bureau.
Chuck, I carry 2 mill in liability
insurance. there are basically 2 types 1)
in progress liability which covers you
while you are on site working and 2.
finished product liability which covers
your finished product. If you are a
corporation you will be personally
protected by the ccorproate shield in most
cases. You might also want to have a
disclaimer statement signed by your
customer. You can find thses forms in a
book by Quicken "legal Business pro. Any
general insurance dealer should be able to
hook you up and the cost is relatively
small...
Yes, insurance should be purchased if you are doing installations!
