Title: Tuice's AirPad review
Post by: Tuicemen on October 09, 2011, 04:49:23 PM
Okay  this is my first Android device so I can't compare it to other pads.
I've had some time to play with this.
However it wasn't as long as I wanted!
My son in-law got hold of it and thinks it is awesome!
I had to pry it out of his hands. rofl
Boot time is faster then my XP notebook.
Virtual keybook is usable but there are other thirdparty versions I'm told are better.
Speakers are loud enough for personal use with most apps I've tested  but volume varies with app.
The display surprised me in that it is better then I expected.
Wifi seems to work as well as my notebook.
Browser works well and zoom in out works well (son in-law showed me that) just like the ipad!
Have had some issues with posting in this forum using it but it is most likely my fat fingers. rofl
Game play Looks good and works well I'm told!
Since I picked this up so I could test run apps I plan on creating.
I've been looking @ apps with Voice recognition and TTS
TTS works well however voice is a little robotic but better then the stock XP voices.
On the upside there are thirdparty voices which sound very good and they're cheep! :)%
I've yet to test a Voice recognition app but the record function works good and play back is clear.
This device has a few drawbacks but is mostly software related As it is running on a phone OS.
It has no phone but utilizes battery power running stuff for it.
Wifi must be turned on on each power up if you wish to use it(no setting to have it always on.
Maybe a thirdparty app could fix that.

As for thirdparty apps there are tons of freebie ones and most paid once are very cheep. :)%
I'll update this thread as time moves on!
for now I give this a thumbs up!

I've had some minor issues with restarting after a full charge (thought it had broke)
It failed to boot maybe because it was to hot! -:)
The screen didn't look as is it had fully turned off maybe something I did.
At least it is working now.
I've ran the batteries down a few time and a window does pop up telling you battery is down to 15%
this seems to happen faster then expected although I did have wifi conected while playing angry birds.

I've view a few pic formats so far and the only issue I have is it won't play a animated Giff on the device.
Again it may be a setting I'm missing, others can confirm this maybe a thirdparty viewer would work.

More time has pasted and I have this tablet running allmost daily from sun up to sun down.

Most of the time it is connected to the charger and I only disconnect when I plan to take it with me.
I did update to the 004 ROM as I didn't wish for the games included and this was the only way to remove them ::) :'
Unfortunately that also removed Google market, however I've found a way to re install it
I originally got this as I thought X10 was finally going to move into the Droid and tablet market for HA.
Man was I wrong! :( :'(
This didn't stop me from developing a HA app for this.
I moved back to ROM 001 as I'd hoped VR would be easier to get working with that ROM.
Not sure if that was the case.
I've found ways to display animated gif files and to get Voice recognition on the Airpads  :)%
This tablet makes a great touch pad for HA.
The Wifi works well on my home network and info exchange is very fast.
I'm told the reason X10 dropped the original airpad and moved to the Airpad P & X was it had hardware limitations for what they had planed.
I'm not sure what they had planed but the newer AirPad reviews haven't displayed much differences in hardware advancement ::) :'
By the time X10 rolls out their plan my Airpad will be doing more then just turning on/off x10 modules and IR devices
I love this tablet and as I develop more for it I'm sure I'll have it running 24/7 very soon.

Is this a review for the one of Old Airpads or for either the Airpad 7p or the Airpad XL?

I can't find any reviews for the 7p or XL.

This is for the original first airpad.
