Title: Demo Kit?
Post by: john t on September 08, 2005, 03:19:20 AM
I am looking for ideas to put together a
demo kit for clients, or tradeshows.  I want
to target buisness/home automation and
security.  What combo of products could I
set up with a laptop to make some sales?

I was thinking the same thing, John. Since it
is a demo package, you can't really include
any wall switches (you want a quick setup),
but you can use lamp and appliance modules, a
couple of motion sensors, and maybe a camera
or two with a VCR recording kit. Use
ActiveHome Pro with the CM15A to program the
interface and create some macros. Also, I was
thinking we could create certain "scenes" -
for instance, you create a "home theatre"
scene, where you setup the lamps around the
TV room, and push a button - lights dim. Push
another button - lights brighten. Another
idea is to set one of the lamps in the
bathroom and demonstrate the use of motion
sensors, etc. The best demo, in my opinion,
is to setup the motion sensors and cameras to
auto record on the VCR when motion is
detected. Any other ideas? I am looking for
the same demo package, and any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

JTA.

I think that letting the clients see the
computer interface, and how it interacts
with 1 lamp, 1 appliance like a fan or a
radio, and a few motion sensors, a remote
and a wireless camera would do the trick.  I
think I will try to use the ideas in the
videos to setup a live demo.

I have a small model house I made, that
gives the basic idea of HA. I have all
wired outlets and a x10 deadbolt. If you
take a power cable from a pc and wire it
all like you would a house, its no biggie.
I normally show with the remote, and get on
the internet and play with my home camera...

I'm curious if either of you have actually
put anything together?  If so, how is it
working for you?

Thanks,

Mark

I was thinking of a board that has select
modules labeled such as porch light, ceiling
fan or such and have a remote to let the
client actually operate the remote and turn
on a few lights.  You could include a couple
of modules that were triggered by one house
and device code.  Something you could maybe
fold up for easy transport.  Make it simple
so people do not get too confused.
Remember, most people that need automation
are still a little afraid of it.  It would
be great if we could sell only to people
that have automation savy.

I was thinking about a "demo" house and using
a tape recorder to video the house so I can
show the house on the road.

X10 sells a Universal Module(UM506) that may
provide control of a deadbolt, depending
upon what type of connection the deadbolt
has.
