Alternate PLC Controllers
« on: August 19, 2005, 12:27:26 AM »

Has anyone else had any success on other
PLC controllers? My cm11a(memory 98% full)
is still in use, reliably, after all these
many years. My cm15a has two timers and two
macros and it still fails  from time to
time. I’m returning my second Smarthome
1132CU. It simply cannot handle the load of
the of all my events and I’m now looking
for another PLC controller.

Thanks

I take it you want to have it stand alone.
With a 24/7 computer running a controller;
even the cm15a; from what I have read; is
reliable.

If you're using the CM11A standalone and are
happy with it except for the limited memory,
why not just get a second CM11A and split up
the load between them.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

I phoned Smarthome Tech Support and the
technician had me make some communication
adjustments. It works perfectly. I’m now
off my CM11A & CM15A and I’m now on one
reliable controller that I’ve already
started to expand on. Smarthome responded
to all my e-mails around 1 business day,
and I was on hold with tech support for
only 10 minutes. Outstanding. I give credit
to X10 for the CM11A, but everything from
that point on they failed dismally. Good
Bye X10. BTW I was also looking into an
OCELOT. Looks slick. But my smarthome works
so here I’ll stay…For now :o)

Were you having problems with 1132CU losing
USB communications? I have problem with my
1132CU losing USB comm when it sends a long
string of DIM commands. Smarthome has been
no help. If this is familiar, what did they
tell you?

Thanks!

I had to adjust a few of the timing things,
that they said maybe needed for systems with
repeaters. Longer time between X10 commands
sent was one of the ones I remember.

Brian,
Were you losing USB connection? (exact pop
up message is :"USB Problem! Is device
connected?"). Sounds like you adjusted the
X10 send delay, did that fix the problem? I
figured the poll time was the problem but
you indicate send delay was your adjustment.
Any help is appreciated.

Send delay was for the added time for my
repeater to send data to the other phase. No
I was not loosing USB connection. Poll time
maybe the answer. I know that a messge on
www.accessx10 in the Smarthome area.
Mentioned that setting. The user had set it
way off and in his case [memory here?] was
missing commands. Smarthome did say thet
setting it incorrectly could cause missed
commands in a high volume of signals.

Mine does have the time loss problem. If the
computer is off and the controller is on the
USB port it typically looses 30 minutes over
night. Stand alone it keeps great time.
