Is it possible, using the SDK to determine what type of module is A1, A2, etc..?

No
None of the present X10 modules are two way and have no way to report their status; type or address.

Well, I can use QueryPlc to get the on/off status of modules.

Yes it is reporting the last known state. That it was set to by the software.
If you manually change a devices status (On Off Dim Brighten). It will be reported incorrectly by QueryPlc.

The modules do not have any power line transmitters in them and can not tell the world someone changed me with my local paddle.

Insteon and Icon modules with an X10 Address added. Can report changes but have issues with the way dimming is handled between the standard X10 used and what Smarthome chose to use.

You may find the information in this thread interestting. Especially Bill's information.
