Can't download and install AHP
« on: August 08, 2009, 05:02:10 PM »

Okay, this is either going to be really embarrassing, or I've wasted a bunch of money ...  B:(

Bought an AHP (with CM15A) bundle from X-10 ... searched the forum ad nauseum before posting ... did NOT receive a download e-mail from them, so I went to the screen that lets you submit a request for a download link, but that installation was not successful ...

I will spare you further details at this point because during the process I got a screen asking for registration codes, but I've never received anything from X-10 via e-mail or with my bundle ... so may I assume that all of my efforts (and problems) trying to download and install the software are for naught without registrations codes?  I called X10, but I guess they don't work weekends ...  ???

Your order number plus -1 is  the code so lets say your order number was 123456 it would be 123456-1

Excellent, thank you ... that'll come in handy when I can get back to that screen  :'(

Here's what I've got:

Xp Pro SP3 machine ... I used the link that they sent me (from my request, see above) to install the software ... it told me it was installing iWatchOut, not AHP, which initially confused me but in the end I did have files in C:\Program Files\ActiveHome Pro and in C:\Program Files\Common Files\X10 ... however, there is no entry in the Start Menu or icon on the desktop, and there is no entry in the add/remove programs screen ... it appeared that the software tried to start automatically but showed a small window with "Error Getting X10Net Interface" and then crashed with a sig of AppName: activehm.exe  AppVer: 3.0.0.236 ModName: ahp.dll  ModVer: 3.0.0.236  Offset: 0015a7d7

If I double-click ActiveHm.exe the machine pauses and returns the same error, then crashes again ...

So I blasted all of those files, rebooted into safe mode and tried again ... same result ... I can see that others have gotten this message in the past, but have not found any answers ... I have a couple of other old systems (both XP Home, one is my eBay PC down in the basement and the other is an old laptop) that I might try ...

I saw a remark by one of the helpful forum folks in response to a posting by a programmer who was bashing X-10, saying that X-10 wasn't designed for pros, but rather for hobbyists and such ... but my initial experiences would not lead me to believe that remark ... I've purchased a lot of downloaded software, including low-end and bargain-basement shareware and such, and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had ... guess I had my expectations too high ...

Any tips would be welcome ... thanks

Okay, quick update ... I went into my firewall and opened up ActiveHome Pro (duh), then double-clicked ActiveHm.exe and it popped up and asked for registration codes (as suggested by manowar) for AHP and iWatchOut ... AHP said "Did Not Find Registration Code" and iWatchOut said "Registered to <me>"

The software seems to be running now, even without the registration codes ... I've sent an e-mail to X-10 asking for codes ...

My PC can't seem to recognize my CM15A, but I'm just starting to troubleshoot that ...

I would go here.
http://software.x10.com/pub/applications/activehome/

Look for ahp updt 204.exe and install that version. That will let then tell you there is an update available to 3.228 which is the most stable version I've seen. 3.236 acted squirrelly on me. For some reason you have to install the whole program version (if that makes sense) for it to properly install the drivers so you might have to use the 3.236 first just to get the drivers to install so the CM15A will work then you can downgrade to 3.204 and from there update to 3.228. That's what I did. Once I got it working I imaged my machine immediately. :)

Thanks ... I'll downgrade to 3.204 (and then up to 3.228) that as soon as I get my registration codes, hopefully tomorrow when they get back into the office ...

BTW, got PC to play nice with the CM15A ... now I need to trundle down to the basement to run some tests on my XPS3 to see if it is truly dead or was just playing possum ...

Hey manowar, I got an e-mail with codes (and zip file with 236) ... they used the system you mentioned, but each app has a different suffix (-1, -2, etc.) ...

Installed everything (except myhouseonline) at 236, then loaded 204 over the top and then upgraded to 228 ... ran a couple of basic tests and it seems to be running okay ... I'm not getting consistent results (e.g., a WS467 that will turn on but not off), but I know there are a lot of reasons why that might happen and I'm just starting to troubleshoot ...

Anyway, thanks a bunch for the responses ... saved me a bunch of time ...

If you are getting mixed results try this.  Turn off everything but the devices you are testing and then test them with the software or a remote or both. If it works try turning on another breaker and test it again. Keep doing this until it doesn't work correctly then check the devices on that breaker. One of them could be causing noise.
