CM15A
« on: April 13, 2011, 12:33:37 PM »

My CM15A is plugged into an outlet downstairs.  I recently (yesterday as a matter of fact) replaced the batteries in it.  However, I cannot control anything by any of my remote controllers.  I did do a download of my timers and macros.  I have to have the CM15A plugged into the computer, and control from there.  If I unplug it from the computer, nothing happens when trying to use a remote.  I have even d/l AHP again just in case my original was corrupt.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks for your input in advance.

I see a few possibilities that might explain this:
A) Your handheld remote is not properly sending the remote codes (weak batteries, or HouseCode wheel contacts are dirty).
B) Your CM15A is not receiving the codes (due to its limited RF reception range).
C) Your CM15A is not set to transceive RF commands on that HouseCode to the powerline.
D) You have signal issues between the modules and the outlet where you are using the CM15A (it was unclear if you need to move it to connect it to the PC or not).

Here are a few suggestions:
1) With fresh batteries in a handheld remote, and the CM15A plugged into the PC, try to send some commands from the remote. Have AHP open and open the Activity Monitor first. If the commands don't show up in the Activity Monitor (or they show up as the wrong HouseCode), try turning the HouseCode dial on the remote all the way around a few times, then set it back to the right HouseCode. Try a few different remotes to be sure.

2) If you CAN see the commands in the Activity Log, then see if the lights are turning on/off as a result. If so, that means the CM15A CAN receive the commands, and is passing them to the Powerline.

3) Next, start moving the remote away from the Cm15A, and try again every few feet. You may find that you have a very limited distance where the remote works. In that case, search the forums for CM15A antenna mods. There are a number of things you can do to try and increase your RF reception range.

4) If you are moving the CM15A to a different outlet from the one next to the PC, then it is possible that the signals are not making it from there to the devices. This can be caused by noise, signal suckers, distance, or a whole host of other things.
Let us know how the first few tests go, and we can try to help further.

I've had a CM15A lock up!
This is rare as It has only happened to me once.
This may have been what happend if everything was working prior to the battery change.
You'll need to clear the CM15A
purge macros
empty the recycle bin
Unplug the CM15A both from the USB and outlet remove the batteries
Don't put the batteries back in but reconnect to the USB and Outlet.
Then clear the CM15A again.
Upload the info back to the CM15A again and test.
Batteries are only to maintain the internal clock while moving the CM15A or in the event of a power outage.
If it fails to upload clear it and try to upload again (this may take a couple of tries)
If everything works clear it again unplug and reinsert the batteries (if you wish)
then reconnect and re-upload to the interface.
Hopefully you don't need to go threw this routine!

I just wanted to say thank you for your advice.  I took the batteries out of the CM15A, cleared the memory, emptied the trash and downloaded the timers, etc., TWICE!  IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!  Now if I could only remember where I parked my car at the mall!!   LOL!

I've had that happen a few times, also. Granted, that's only a few times, in over 6 years of use, and multiple CM15A units. So it is a rare problem.

There's an app for that (not from X10, though).

I don't understand why you are laughing(?).

I am convinced someone comes out and moves mine.
