CM15A Interface Timing
« on: December 08, 2006, 07:26:21 PM »

Sorry for another newbie (to AHP) question, but I notice when a timed event is scheduled it takes 20-50 seconds before the commands are executed. I tried to update the interface from the Hardware Config to ensure the interface's time is current.

Any ideas?

whsbuss: Just did some playing with the timers to check out your observation... I see the same thing, a delay in the timer executing.

My $0.02 Theory (AKA a guess): If you look at the Hardware Interface Configuration, you will see no seconds shown for the Interface Time. So when you do a download, it just sends the Hour & Minutes, and after this is downloaded the seconds in the CM15A just simply reset to "00".

Great observation/guess. I just disconnected my interface (since I run it standalone) but if you could try this to confirm your guess that would help.

Tools->Hardware Config
wait until the clock at the bottom hits xx:xx:59 (59 seconds) then click Update Interface.

OR

Click Download Timers and Macros at 5 seconds before xx:xx:59

If your theory works and the seconds reset, then next timer should happen within 1-2 seconds of the minutes changing.

Let me know!

Ok did the test, and the results are kind of funny.

Started the download at xx:xx:59. The download took about 20 seconds. The timer triggered the same amount of time after the minute.

So I started the download at about xx:xx:39 (39+20=59). The Timer triggered just after the turn of the minute as expected... but it was 1 minute after the timer was set for  :D

(I did this twice just to be sure of repeatability.)

Ahh-Haa!

Your theory is right on. Try downloading 30 seconds before the clock change. Download times will depend on how many timers/macros configured. Mine only takes 15 seconds.

Let me know your results.

Try downloading 30 seconds before the clock change.

Triggers 50 seconds after the minute (30+20).

Started at xx:xx:50; triggers at 10 seconds after the minute.

So how far after the minute your timer triggers depends on when you send it and how long it takes... so it appears the timer will aways be within a minute after the PC time.

I haven't tried it recently, but the following used to work to set the CM15A clock to the exact time:
Download your timers and macros as usual.
   Click on Tools.
Wait until your system clock (in the status bar) just rolls over to the next whole minute.
Click on Tools > Hardware configuration.
Click on the Cancel button to dismiss this window.

Timers should now execute within a second or two of their programmed time.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Luckily it isn't normally critical to have lights turned on at the top of a minute.  What a joke this software is!  Every time I come in here I see a dozen new workarounds.
