AM-486 appliance module for ceiling fan ??????
« on: February 03, 2007, 07:18:16 AM »

Anyone ever used rewired version of AM-486 appliance module for ceiling fan's ???? Have a 70 year old house & don't want to have to pull neutral wires for everything.Have 4 room's with fan's, all with 4 light 60 watt fixtures.Fan's are just standard 38" to 42" blades & controled by single pole wall switch & pull chain for speeds.Planned to remove AC blades & receptacles on 486 board & install 12 or 14 gauge wire instead with strain releives. Thank You

You can get a X10Pro XPFM Fixture Module that mounts in the fixture.

So does an appliance module. It has both a line and neutral pin on the AC Input. So a stripped appliance module will still need a neutral connection. Inside the fans isn't there a neutral as I believe that is where you wanted to put them.

A AM486 has a neutral pin, but a AM465 does not.  A 465 may be what he can use if there's no neutral in the fan housing.

There is no ground pin on the 465. It still neeeds a Neutral pin.

The 465 is a two-pin module.  A 486 has the grounding pin.  You do not need the neutral to use a 465

Check the Schematic Dan.
It uses the Neutral.
Line and Neutral IN Switched Line Out and Neutral. The internal power supply connects between Line and Neutral.
If you can get a appliance module to work with no neutral I give you a BIG GOLD STAR!

Brian, I have a AM465 controlling a frouresecent closet light plugged into a 2-prong outlet. Every weekday that 465 turns on the light at 6:30 AM and off at 7:15 AM.  There's no neutral wire to the outlet it's plugged into, so it does not require a neutral.

Dan; Every outlet in a home has a Neutral and Line connection. Two wire outlets do not have a safety ground pin.

In standard Romex cable, there are 3 wires, a black, a white and a bare copper in a paper wrap. That's the neutral. If you hook the black and white together, the circuit breaker goes BANG!!!.  The back and white are the two halves of the AC circuit. The neutral can be either, if it's used.

NO the White is the Neutral. The Bare wire is the Ground. Technically both tie together in the breaker panel. Every wall outlet has a Neutral on the wide pin.
