New WS467 - Do It Have AGC?
« on: August 20, 2007, 01:27:48 PM »

Howdy!

Any of you old timers figured out if X10 maintained the AGC feature from the LM14A in the redesigned WS467?

AGC= Automatic Gain Control.  I wasn't aware any of the X10 units had this (new or old).

There is some X10Pro version units with AGC. The WS467 never had it. With some of the changes going on at X10, (not being announced) maybe X10 added it but I doubt that on this switch.

If the X10 command signal is very weak, the module will amplify it (add "gain").    On the flip side, it doesn't do this for strong X10 command signals, which if it did, would make them too strong.  Selectively amplifying and not amplifying is the "automatic" part.

Doesn't the LM14A have it?  Isn't that how it can handle X10 signals which are twice as weak as those a regular lamp module can handle (50mV vs. 100mV)?

BTW, the original question might make sense if it was worded ...

"Any of you old timers figured out if X10 maintained the AGC feature of the LM14A in the redesigned WS467?"

Dave_W,
Thank you for posting this.  It's nice to see that the new WS467 has some good qualities to go along with it's "glaring" problems (won't brighten from an off condition).

How were you able to determine that your unit had AGC? Is there a resource somewhere that explains the new features of these units (other than the testing performed by members of this forum)?

Thanks in advance,
Boiler
