Plasma TV Screens
« on: October 15, 2007, 09:46:42 AM »

Hello,

A client has 3 PLASMA TVs, on 3 X-10 Controlled outlets.  He remotely turns each TV off in order 1, 2, 3.  A few seconds later they come back on 1, 2, 3.  What can we do to keep them x-10 power controlled, but not come back on.  I have not witnessed it, as of now this is the description.  Did I hear from other sources at some point there is issues with this. PLASMA screens and X10.  Something relating to surges.. Relating to surges to the x-10 module and it kicking back?

Thanks,
Karl

Sounds like a "Local Control" issue. Search the forum for "Local Control" or "Local Sense".

There are web sites describing how to modify Appliance Modules and Lamp Modules to defeat Local control, I believe the controlled outlet can be modified similar to the Appliance Module.

An alternative is to substitute modified Appliance Modules for the TV controllers or go to a Smarthome brand Appliance Module where the "Local Control" can be programmed off. If you are a contractor,  now installing X10 you might want to spend some time "parusing" this forum to learn of some of X10 peculiarities.

As a short test for Local Control. Try a outlet tap so you can plug both the plasma and a small incandescent light into the switched outlet. If it now stays off. Local Control is a possible cause.
