CM11A Not Responding
« on: November 28, 2007, 12:22:30 PM »

Did a brief search on the board and found a few relative topics but I want to cover my bases before making any conclusions.

I'm using v1.42d of active home and have been unable to connect to my CM11A on any port (although Port 1 is the current COM port) on two PCs. I've also attempted to connect to it on a third PC running Linux and the Heyu s/w with no success. How reliable are the CM11a? Are they prone to just quitting? Any other suggestions as to what might be at fault? I've replaced batteries, changed comm ports, updated software to no avail. Also, I'm running WINXP.

XP has been reported to be a problem for some. The Heyu with Linux; I have not seen any problem reports.
How old is the CM11A? It may have failed if you have tried it on many computers. How does the serial cable look? It to may have gone bad but again I have not seen any reports of cable problems.

A big question is whether this CM11A has ever worked for you in the past or instead is newly acquired.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

This unit is about 3-4 years old and yes, it did work for me in the past. I had stopped using it for whatever reason and stored it away. Pulled it back out for use in controlling the Christmas lights and no joy.

The cable and connector appear to be in good shape. I wish there was a way to determine beyond a reasonable doubt that the unit is no good.
