How do I register plugins after registering main program?
« on: January 12, 2008, 01:00:24 PM »

I just recently re-installed ActiveHome Pro on a new PC.  When I did that, I didn't give the registration for "smart" macros plugin (double quotes on smart are intended).  Now I want to register the "smart" macros plugin but the software doesn't seem to allow me to.  How do I do that?

I really get sick and tired of registering software when it isn't that good and *only* works with hardware I had to buy.  Just that short rant, now I am OK.

Welcome Aboard!

To register your plug-ins, click on "Help" then "Product Registration"
This will bring up what is registered and Not!(Active Home Pro Plug-In Registration Window)
In the box beside SmartMacros enter your Registration Number
At the bottom of this screen is a button "Register Now" ,clicking on that will send the info and register! ;)

I have tried that.  It shows a dialog which "All Products Registered" and the "Register Now!" button is grayed out.  It appears that I only had one chance to register.  I even re-installed the software and that didn't change anything.

My recollection is that there is a separate installer program for SmartMacros,  in addition to the installer program for AHP.

When I start AHP, a splash screen appears with the names of the available plugins, each marked with "Registered" or "Not registered".
Do you get this splash screen?  And is the SmartMacros plugin listed as "Not registered"?

So where do I get that installer for SmartMacros?  When I start up AHP I see a splash screen which shows the SmartMacros plugin, but says it isn't registered.  How do I activate it?

My AHP splash screen shows all the plugins offered by X-10, even the ones I don't have.  The ones I don't have are marked "not registered".  I suspect you don't have the SmartMacros installed.

Call X-10 and give them your original order number and they're supposed to email you a link where you can download the SmartMacros installer.  If you don't have your order number, they're supposed to be able to look you up by the email address you used when you entered the order.  (At least that's what they've told us in the past.)

They sent me the software which I *thought* included all the plugins.  I remember them all being listed at one point.

This is quite annoying.

OK, I called X10 support and they said, "Sure, we'll send that out."  Now it is a week later and I still haven't heard anything.  I wouldn't call this customer support, but lack of it.

I am really not sure why I got the CM15 at this point since X10 won't release the specs for it so that someone could write a decent interface to it.

There are other programs out there that can interface with it. If any can upload to it with any of these it is doubtfull! :(

If you wish to write a program for the CM15A you can download the SDK! ;)
AHP doesn't need to be installed!

Is the SDK just for Windows?  And does it allow uploading and downloading macros?

The CM15A has been usable for me because as a piece of hardware it is much better than the CM11A.   I can set everything up using the junky ActiveHome Pro software (once I get the darn software downloaded and installed and registered), and then I don't have to run the PC software till I want to change something.

AHP is not a piece of junk.  The current version is 3.204 and that is stable.  Some users have problems with one or more of the plug-ins, but not everybody.

AHP is not the worst software I have used.  But, the registration process is stupid -- is it worth anything to someone who doesn't have the hardware? -- and the whole graphical icon system isn't very well done.  I am always clicking on things that don't intuitively activate or work.   And I have caused it to crash on me a few times in the past 2 weeks -- I am using the latest version.

As I just said, the worst part is that I can't seem to get the "Smart Macros" working.  I bought it, I own it and I can't get it working because of some crazy registration scheme that no one can figure out.  How is this good software?

The SDK is for windows! ;)
Unfortunately it doesn't allow one to up load anything to the CM15A. :( Yet  ;)

When you reinstalled AHP on your new machine did you use One installer or several?
SmartMacro Plug-in has its own installer as do all the other Plug-ins as Charles Sullivan  stated!

Thanks, but that is where I have gone to download stuff.  It never gives me anything but one file.

I decided to make a last ditch effort to get this working...  I found the old original email with links to download the software (I keep pretty much all my email).  Sure enough there were different links for each of the plugins I bought.

I downloaded the smart macros plugin installer, and installed it.  Then I put in the registration info and it seems to work.

Now, if only I could remember why I wanted to do a Smart Macro.  For some reason I wanted to do that a week ago...
