Media Center and X10 software that WORKS ??? (Vista+MCE+CM11)
« on: February 09, 2008, 08:51:48 AM »

I got my Home Pro working out just fine (after some COM port problems  :o ) ...
But I want to test it out with Media Center !

And that was not so easy  :-\

My setup : Windows Wista Ultimatium, 3Ghz cpu, 3gb memory..  and I got a USB CM11 x10 controller !

I did try mControl : Did not work, I got a ERROR 2869 message when I try to install it...  ???

I did try Homeseer: does not work, says that the "trial" has expired !!!  ???

Both system I have tryed have a bad webPage support..
I did actually want to BUY homeseer to take away that "trial" expired problem.
But it was actually not easy to find the "buy a license"  ::)

IS there any other MCE softwares that actually works without any problem?
That works for VISTA aswell ??

thanx for helping out a x10 beginner  ;D ;D

1.  Active Home (NOT Active Home Pro) is known for having COM port problems on both XP and Vista. Some people have had good luck with a USB-COM cavle, but apparently your PC doesn't like it.

Active Home Pro comes with a USB CM15A interface and will work with Vista . Check out http://www.x10.com/activehomepro/activehome-pro.htm

Oh.. sorry, I guess it`s Active Home I have (not PRO) sorry.. beginner mistake..
Yes I read about COM problems on the forums... but my VISTA (and XP) does now work perfect with the CM11 USB\COM adapter !
So I can program my macro and other commands and save it in the CM11 :)

But is there no software that looks better than the Home Pro ??
Some better UI with drawings of rooms and that stuff?

The Home pro is just "text" ..
And the Homeseer is just a simple Explorer setup Userface...
No pictures of the rooms and so on...

I did think that a Home Automation system like X10 (and others) had more programs that is better.

HAI controll is sure nice to use in MCE, but it does not support X10 ( ? )

thanx :-)

Active Home 1.42 is available on the X10 website http://www.x10.com/homepage2.htm?|x10welcomeab2 , look in the software section.

Neither Active Home or Active Home Pro (for the CM15A interface) is a graphical software showing rooms, etc.  There used to be freeware/shareware programs for the CP-290 that was used in the late 1980's, but none were ever written for the CM11A or the CM15A.
