CM15A and all attached modules stopped working
« on: May 17, 2008, 10:38:55 PM »

Hi all,
Any experts out there that can tell me why my X10 system seems to have totally stopped?

About 1 week ago everything was working fine. A few days ago, the hand held modules would no longer turn on or off any lamps.

I then connected the CM15A to the computer and tried to control lamps from the AHP software. Nothing worked.

I have a second CM15A so I tried it. Same story. Just to ensure there was no battery pulling down an internal voltage I removed the batteries (don't have any new ones handy at the moment though these are NOT supposed to have any functional interaction).

I then move the Lamp module to the power bar bedside the LM15A and connected the lamps that used to work.  It still does not work. (no batteries in the LM15A)

I am running XP Pro and this setup worked originally. It has not changed. THe system does not complain about the USB connection. THe Tools/Find-Other-Computers seems to be working in that it shows the modules I have but it does not show the correct state of the lamps.

The modules I am using are: LM465 (x3), WS467 (x1), AM466 (x2).

So what is going on?

My newest CM15A was purchased in Dec 2007 so it is still under warranty I believe.

Thanks,
Peter

Since you tried two different CM15A units, that is probably not the problem.  It is likely you have some electrical noise source that is blocking X10 communication.  This can be as simple as a new cellphone charger.  For hints on how to deal with X10 communication problems, you might want to read the tutorials on noise generators and the Cellet cellphone charger that are available here:

Thanks Jeff.
Seems like I found the culprit soon after my posting. I had an older PS561 on the lines from older X10 modules. Since I don't use the tel lines anymore I decided to remove it just in case. As soon as I did everything began working again. It seems then that the PS561 must have died in the last week in a mode that sent noise on the lines.

So now we're good!

Thanks again, this user's group is useful.
