Ready to return the whole lot! $400 worth of X10 products!
« on: August 06, 2008, 02:28:25 AM »

As I mentioned in my last posting I purchased over $400 in X10 items with high hopes. But in reality, I was extremely underwhelmed.

I've already determined that the Voice Dialler console is quite inadequate as an alarm system. This partly due to too many false alarms caused by faulty DS10A and the difficulty is narrowing down which ones are faulty, overly sensitive or not sensitive enough MS10A, inability to enter alarm code (like any other secure alarm system).

Anyhow, I thought I would keep some of the components such as the MS14A (Eagle Eye outdoor motion sensor), LM15A socket rocket, LM465 lamp module, SH624 remote control, and a few other components.

Unfortunately (and this may be my lack of understanding), I cannot find a way to make the MS14A/LM15A work independently of the LM465. In other words, when the outside motion sensor is triggered, it also lights up all the LM465 lamp modules! Also, the SH624 lamp on/off toggles all the lights on the LM465's and the LM15A.

1. I don't want the MS14A to control the inside lights connected to the LM465 lamp modules

2. I don't want the SH624 to control the outside light connected to the LM15A socket rocket

I have tried changing the HOUSE code on the LM465 from the default of A to B but then the SH624 no longer controls the lamp module.

Any ideas because the instructions do not explain this concept at all.

Thank you.

Have you changing the house and unit codes of the lamp module to match those of the sensor?

The Motion sensor and the socket rocket work as they should so there is no need to change anything with those two items.

If you do not want the motion sensor to control the LM465 lamp module(s) then do not set the lamp modules unit codes to the same unit code of the motion sensor.

Your original post indicates a possible mis-understanding of the way X10 works. Most users are very satisfied with the Security Console, but don"t expect it to be "plug -n-play".  I know the X10 web site makes it sound as though it is.  Maybe reading the X10 wiki will help. http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Main_Page

I shouldn't have tried to answer right after I got up this morning. My answer was too brief.

To make the MS14A/LM15A work independently of the LM465, you just have to put the first pair on a different house code from the LM465. (You could probably just solve this with a different unit code, but using two house codes makes sure they will not interact.)

If you set the SH624 to a different house code from the LM15A, it will not trigger it. The remote will only trigger modules and switches on the same house code.
