Not a smooth start.
« on: September 13, 2008, 09:50:38 PM »

As a former X-10 user, I thought I would be up and running easily with my new package.  Not so fast. First of all, there was no software included. Ok, so I download from the site. No problem. Well, there was a problem. In the general download area, I downloaded active home software. Installed and of course it didn't work, being an older version of the software that worked with a unit that had a com port. After an hour of twiddling with this, I realized there was a problem. Nothing was working.
Ah, I needed to go to the secure link in the download area and use my order number to access the new software. Fine. Hmmm, where is that email...lost in a sea of spam. Found the email, finally. Downloaded the software, I think. Not sure if I'm getting all 5 software items included in the special offer, but we'll see.  Ok, installing the proper software now, and, hmmm welll I think it went ok. Not sure what all I installed, but let's see. Ok, first thing, there's no desktop icon or any program group for it. Odd. Reinstall time. Ok, this time the program comes up, asking for registration codes! Registration codes? Wonder what those could be? Checked online forums and found what the code should be for me. Entered codes for the two requested items...code not found. GAAH!
(Code was accepted for the video module, which I can't use anyway because I don't have the camera. ) Let's see if tech support can supply me a working registration code. Ah, they can't on a Saturday, nobody working.  I guess I'm stuck. I shouldn't be stuck. All hooked up, and nothing to do.  :'( I haven't had this much fun since my new Dell arrived with Vista. Then again, it's now running with XP Pro, but that's another story...

Yeah.... all the info needed was contained in the confirmation email (registration codes too). Your doing good! The fastest way to setup AHP and the CM15A... is take your time and read everything. TONS of info about both here at the forum. Keep posting so we all know your setup OK.

I'm not doing good at all. Unable to use this system at all, because the software will not register. Also have been unable to contact X-10 technical support for any help with the registration codes. No answer to an email in 24 hours. This is not a happy experience. Some suggestions for improvement:

1. Include software with the package (even if out of date, it is a start.)
2. Lose the software registration. If not...
3. Give the customer some method of retreiving these codes, if lost. An order number should be sufficient. If not...
4. Answer customer inquiries promptly, by email or phone. If not...
5. Why not include registration information with the order?

I decided I no longer have time to resolve this issue. I requested a RMA today, and will soon be relieved of this whole problem.

What a bummer!

I had had a..... less than fullfilling experience with the AH (original)... and because of that nearly didn't buy AHP. That would have really sucked! Because I really enjoy the AHP. Check out my AHP/BVC YouTube Video.

As long as you have your order number there should be no problem getting your registration codes one thing DON'T COPY AND PASTE just type in everything. For some reason it doesn't take don't ask me why but that what tech support told me and it solved the problem for me.

If you loose the download link. There is a place in the support area to request a new link.
When I bought my new AHP setup I never got the email with link or registration numbers. Most time the order number and the -1 etc suffix is for each piece of software in the package. That said it did not work for me; as I feel the order never got into the computer so the registration numbers can not be found.  :o ??? :'(
This is my first problem with an X10 order but I am now seeing how others feel about their support.  :'

I am having this problem now and it would seem that the tech staff are not too dilligent about calling or being available to be reached. Never should so many have problems with registration. This is a ludicrous concept. Where is my disc with the software? I bought it, I should have it. The cost could be passed on to the buyer as an option. I would have chosen it. But I now have the installation program files (thanks to a salesperson) so all I need is my registration. I cannot get IWatch plugin to show up in the plugin area and it is installed. I think this may be because of the registration.

If I cannot get it working today, I may just trash the idea and move on.

Welcome to the forums hollyfox.
We are a group of X10 user volunteers [here at the forums]... not X10 employees. So complaints posted here are a bit of a waste of reading material.

I know setup can be frustrating... I've been there myself. But your not alone. Rarely have I seen anyone who came to the forums for help.... not completely resolve their problems. In fact many of us stay for a time and help others.

Do you also have the video adapter and cameras attached to your PC with the AHP software?

I finally got it running after hours and hours of calling tech support. X10 is having serious problems with registration and they had to reissue a sales order and generate new codes before I could get it working. Thanks for your help though. Maybe all ofthis will help someone new to X10 products. No sense in  >*< eh?

(I just HAD to use that emoticon!  rofl

I had to have Customer Service email me my registration and loader programs in .ZIP format.
My new setup never came with the needed email.
