Expanding x10 security system
« on: September 21, 2008, 01:20:09 AM »

I have just recently installed an x10 wireless security system with the following components:

13 Door/Window Sensors (DS10A)
3   Security Motion Detectors (MS10A)
2   Lamp Modules (LM465)
2   Socket Rockets (LM15A)
2   Large Powerhorns (PH508)
1   Voice Dialer Console (PS561)
1   Security Remote Control (SH624)
4   Security Keychain Remotes (KR10A)

After a few initial installation problems, all componets are now working perfectly.  I have a few questions on expanding the system. I am hooked on the ability to control lights with a remote control. I want to add more automation modules that can operated with a remote control.  The SH624 only operates four (unit codes 1-4).  In my case two porch lights and two interior lamps.

What do I need to get in order to use a remote to operate all 16 unit codes.  I would like to add more lamp modules, appliance modules, light switches, etc.

Does this need to be a separate system?

Can the two lamp modules, and socket rockets be registered to the security system and another controller at the same time?  I do not want to compromise my security.  I have the socket rockets on the front and back porch lights ,and the lamp modules on lamps in two different rooms. I love the idea that when the alarm goes off, all of these lights flash.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of wanting to automate just a little bit more.

Your PS561 base is a single house code transceiver; all you need is a remote that is set to the same house code inorder to control up to 16 device addresses.

No it doesn't; but if you want to expand into more automation, I suggest looking at ActiveHome Pro.

They are not really registered, just accessed. So yes you can use them for your security system and home automation at the same time.

butlerj2000 I see another one hooked! rofl
Just to expanded on Puck and tomj posts!
Getting ActiveHome Pro (AHP) with the all plug-in package will satisfy your automation needs for years! :'
You wont be disappointed! (well maybe if it doesn't work straight out of the box, but a little tinkering will get you up and running)
AHP will intergrate nicely with your security setup already inplace and you won't be limited to 16 units (lights/appliances)!

The only problem I would like to warn you of is the range of the CM15A AHP unit, your mileage may vary but I personally fine the range limited.

............. I am hooked on the ability to control lights with a remote control.

It was being able to dim my lights at the beginning of a movie that got me hooked on X10. Using AHP (with the CM15A) really makes it impressive. But then I discovered BVC (Bill's Voice Commander) and I can now control my lights (and much more) with just a voice command (like on Star Trek). Check Out my X10/BVC YouTube Video.

butlerj2000 your going to love X10 Home Automation!
