X10 Windows Media Player Control
« on: September 26, 2008, 01:54:01 PM »

Hi,

I developed an application to control Windows Media Player using X10 commands.
The application will allow you to select the play list, play, stop, skip to the next music and previous one.
It is very simple to set up and use Text To Speech to talk the name of the play list. I have speakers in my house connected to the computer that runs my home automation software and this small app.
This way I can use the X10 remote to select the play list that I want to play without looking at the computer.

I wrote this app as a sample to use this funcionality on a bigger project that I'm doing. You can add this app to your start up programs, this way you will always be able to listen to music when you want.

Below is one screenshot of the application, like I said is very basic but do the work.

You can get more info and download this app from the link below:
www.letsdevelopit.com

This is my web page and I will be adding more apps there time to time.

Thanks,
MVago

A new version with support for volume and some fixes/improvements were added.

Just a reminder that, if you have issues to setup or to understand this software, you can leave a message here or on the message board of the www.letsdevelopit.com web site.
I'm always reading this forum and I will be happy to help.

Do you have the X10 SDK installed in your machine? This can be the reason that the app is crashing in your machine.

I ran this app without the SDK and I was able to repro the crash. A new version is available, the application will pop up a message saying that the SDK is not installed instead of crash.

This app should run on Vista just fine (if you have the X10 SDK installed).

You can download the X10 SDK from the X10 website: http://www.activehomepro.com/sdk/sdk-info.html

If you still have issues or need help let me know...

Thanks!

Let me know if works for you.
You need to have at least one play list created by you on the Windows Media Player.

If some one is using this app without issues, please, let me know....

I must apologize for my lack of a report.  I have had it up and running just fine since mid October and it's a great addition to my arsenal of x10 related programs.  #:)

    Hi,

    I have some good news.
I updated the web site, you will see a better explanation on how to install and setup.

I added the VOLUME control and I did some improvements to solve some issues with the X10 remote that some times send more than one command.

You will see on the web site a template to put on your PalmPad Remote Control, the template add the music control to your remote, making easier to use.

The web site still the same:  www.letsdevelopit.com

I am trying to run the X10 Media Player Control, but when trying to start it I get an exception dialog:

X10 Media Player Control has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

        Error signature:

            EventType : clr20r3     P1 : x10 media player control.exe     P2 : 1.0.0.0

           P6 : 49b8b1c6     P7 : 3     P8 : cf     P9 : system.io.filenotfoundexception

I have installed X10's SDK and the .Net 2.0 framework. I am running XP, service pack 2. Do you know what the problem may be?

    Thanks!

    Hi mvago,

It would be great if you would add functionality for FF and Rewind.

    Thanks!

If there was any way this code could be modified to work with J River Media Center I'd be your friend for life.
