Don't stop now.... you just need more ideas. Maybe if you describe your setup and some of us could make suggestions. You might start with AHP... to discover the joy of a well executed macro.

I'm using 14 House Codes!
Ok not all of them are using all their unit codes but as Bill put it you still have lots more to use.

I need to add motion detector to the entrance to the recording studio to auto on the lights when I open the door.
We really like that feature where it is practical. This morning I turned to go down to the basement and the stairway light came on. Then I turned to enter the studio and was irritated (for a millisecond) that I had to turn on the light myself.

I have a moose alarm system protecting that room and a reed switch on the door but I believe a motion detector would be easier to implement.

I know what you mean.... I hate turning lights on [and off]. I like having Kate do that for me.

I am not sure...

If the idea of not running in active mode (but in sleep mode instead) is to save electric useage.... the difference would be tiny. Processing power does increase power (electric) usage.... but setting there listening doesn't cause any processing. I track energy usage pretty close (I am married).

I run an old P3 (I saved from landfill) for my Home Automation. My HA Computer isn't a budget buster... if it was practial... I would replace the P3 with a more modern PC. Meanwhile for a little bit of near nothing.... I get a bunch of extras. Check out my BVC Fan Site

For years.... SOP at work (DOD) was all computers off at the end of the day.

Then the world flip-flopped (we didn't everyone about that part)... and the computers needed to be left ON so they could be updated, patched, and scanned.

I still (I am retired) make sure the case is on any (and every) computer I run. And that monitors are off when not being viewed. I run my HA PC on metal shelving away from much that is combustible. But... it isn't like it was in the old days anyway. The cable box and cable modem, The router, and switcher, the DVD and the receiver/amplifier they don't turn off. Even when I push the off button (if they even have one)... they continue to run on some level... consuming electric and posing a risk. I even have a remote control (that also has a processor) that sets in it's own charging cradle 24/7.. so it's always fully charged.

I know many hesitate about running a PC 24/7... and the concept of a dedicated HA Computer hasn't caught on with everyone yet ether. But IMHO.... it's worth it. Even if you don't run BVC... AHP (with the CM15A) gets a whole lot smarter when connected to a working PC.

I don't know about Mrs. Dave, but here at Knight Industries, I know that Mrs. Knightrider can get a little annoyed when I tell BVC to turn off the Bedroom Light and it hears the Command as "Bathroom Light Off"    Other than that, the whole family thinks that BVC is a blast, especially when I tell it to "cook my dinner" (custom command speaks something that's better not posted here)

Mrs Dave really thought I'd lost my mind when I first set up BVC. She likes the feeling of control she gets from manual operation.... so we've divided up much of the way things work... in a way that is comfortable to both of us.

But she has since more than come around to the convenience, safety, security, and ease of BVC and Home Automation.

I also got a little heat when I built the outside X10 [activated] Mobile Observation Platform[/color]... which I named R.E.D.

But now she seems to have really come around and asks me to demonstrate my setups and creations all the time. She is ether very proud... or building a case for my committal. Time will tell.

Has anyone devised a set of standards for the A through P unit codes?

I have the following:
A = Miscellaneous
B = Bedrooms
C = Closets
D = Dining Room/Den
K = Kitchen
L = Loo (British for Bathroom)
M = Macro

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

No standards... that I am aware of:

A =I use A for testing... A is the default code and I can test new devices without setting up a code
B = Bedrooms/Basement
C = C is for Cameras?
D = Dining Room/Den/downstairs
M = I thought everyone used M for Monitored (the monitored code)

But to be honest... I had originally not used the A code.. and chose B instead. Then for my next code... I skipped C and used D.
