To all that replied, THANK YOU!!
Now for my bonehead of the month self nomination...
I had decided to go ahead and do the reinstall thing, so went into the CP to remove the program, BUT, it wasn't in the list! So checked in the Start > All Programs list, not there either!! Whatthe**!
I had been using a desktop icon to start the program, had never checked for a proper install because it had (mostly) been working, could control flood lamps on/off, program SocketRockets, etc!
Next step was to run the SETUP program to do a "Custom Uninstall", but when I ran it, it acted like the AHP was not even installed, with only a notice about the directory already existing. So I just went through the install process to see what would happen.
It installed normally! I got it listed in the Program files and of course in the CP. AND, now I have no problems with HARDWARE CONFIGURATION. Things are cool.
To complete the whole embarrassing tale of boneheadism, I checked my CM15 batteries, and sure enough, NONE were installed. Then I remembered I had a made a mental note (so much for those!) to myself to pickup some AAA batts, but somehow never did...sigh
After doing all the stuff I shudda done during the initial install, I now have a (as far as I can tell) normally functioning AHP program.
I did a quickie macro to fire off my PowerHorn in House Code D by one of my (3 total) dual Flood motion detectors (PH508) with House code B. I got a ton of SocketRockets to install and setup, but they should be easy after all this other stuff!
So, there is my (highly embarrassing) confession. Thanks again for ALL your comments and help; they helped me get back on track. I have some other technical questions, but I will start a new thread in the appropriate sections. For now I must slink away and hope I won't run too bad a gauntlet getting outta here...!
