Question regarding IR mini controller
« on: December 02, 2008, 03:51:36 PM »

Hi,

1) If I get an IR Mini Controller and a remote, do I need a trasnscever?

What I really need to know if only these two packs will work for me, assuming I have no other x10 products:

http://www.x10.com/promotions/ir10a_em_ppt_4999_v2.html#up1
1 iconRemote (IR10A)     $129.99
1 IR Mini Controller (IR543)    $22.86
1 Socket Rocket (LM15A)    $19.99

http://www.x10.com/promotions/rca_lawg_pack_black_v2.html
3 RCA Lamp Module (HC10LM)     $20.97
3 RCA Appliance Module - (2 pin) (HC20AM)    $20.97
2 RCA Wall Switch Module (HC30WD)    $13.98
1 PalmPad (HR12A)    $19.99

Another questions, do they really mean it when they say FIRST 25 ORDERS ONLY or 48hr SALE, or do they do these kind of discout promotion packages often (In other words, should I buy this NOW?

Add the detail page for the promotion to your bookmarks.  It'll probably still be there for the next year at least.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Need? No... but a transceiver would be handy... many nice package deals will have one with "other units" also.

The two packages you've selected looks much like my first order. I was purchasing for my Home Theater <link (I wanted some WOW factor). I would consider a transceiver also (as mentioned above) and you may find you need a phase coupler, or line filters of some sort.... not a big deal.

If you are building a Home Theater... you may want to (later) consider the AHP (Active Home Pro). It allows the user to create scenes... and a few other cool things. I turn down (then off) the overhead lighting when a movie starts (automatically). But when the movie ends... I bring up some cabinet lights... so the light doesn't blind anyone. Of course... I now can start the process with just a Voice Command.

Thanks for the answers.. :)

I did consider buying the ActivePro, although, I don't plan to automate nothing but one room in the house, so I figured that would be too much for just one room.

What about the RR501 transceiver? I read the comparisons with the TM751, and it seems to be much better. Would it make a difference for me in this case? Because since I'm getting all of this, I want to make sure I get the best.

The RR501 is a polite transceiver... which will wait/hold signals if it detects [X10 signals] activity on the powerline. If your only using just one transceiver... the RR501 provides no additional benifits. The IR Mini Controller does send PLC (Power Line Commands) but it doesn't "hear" the RF signals.
