X10 Compatible Doorbell Button
« on: December 26, 2008, 06:09:12 PM »

Does anyone know of a doorbell button that is compatible with X10?  I purchased the X10 doorbell kit and the buttons doe not work and tech support is stumped, I see alot of others on the forum with the same problem.  Even if they worked they would soon fail since they are not weatherproof,so I am looking for another button that is compatible.    Thanks    Tom

Tom, consider connecting a powerflash (PF284) module to a conventional door chime (even the RF ones). Then the Powerflash module can flash a light, or trigger a macro.

There is no production X10 door bell available. The information Dave_x10_L provided will allow you to use a regular door bell switch to make your own. Triggering of a macro is just an example of what can be done; of course that does require separate software.

Thanks for the info, I purchased the doorbell kit as a Christmas present for a friend that lives in a mobile home and does not have an existing doorbell.  I just started with X10 and only have a few light switches and modules, I think I will buy her a over the counter doorbell system and keep this kit for when I expand and upgrade my system.  The little looking I did in the forum turned up a lot of people having problems with the Big Red Buttons, why does X10 keep selling these components as a kit that won't work together?   ???
