Motion Sensor will not turn off light
« on: January 27, 2009, 10:39:14 AM »

guys,

I am new to the automation world.  I just ordered a 11 piece automation kit

I am  testing out the eagle eye motion sensor with a lamp pluged into the wirless sensor module.

The settings for both at the defaults.

The motion dector turns the light on fine but after 5 mins it does not shut off.

I did have other lights in the  room on but that should not affect it . I am under the impression that only motion sets it off

What can be the issue? I thought the light would go off after one minute.  I even put it in another room for a while and the light is still on.

What happens if you push the OFF button on the motion sensor?

If the light turns OFF, the motion sensor is probably being retriggered and will reset the timer each time it retriggers. If you try and isolate the motin sensor again, make sure the room is dark and the motion sensor is not pointed at any heat sources.

I never tried that before.  I did the other option the directions tell you  press the house button and the unit button once

I will try what you said tonight

Does any one know the range on this thing.    How far apart should it be from the device its working with wheither its a video camer or lamp  .

thanks for your help

The "press and hold until the LED blinks"  is for programming house code and unit code.

However just a quick press of the buttons will send an ON or an OFF. One other point, what kind of light are you using in the Socket Rocket? CFL bulbs and LED bulbs can be noise producers when on. Thus the SR receives the ON signal, but does not recieve a clear OFF signal because of the noise being generated byt the bulb. Having the OFF button on the motion sensor turn the SR off will indicate it is not a noise problem, but the motion sensor being continually retriggerd during your test.
Range:
If, in your statement below, the " wirless sensor module " is a TM751 or RR 501 tranceiver, then range for the motion detector varies but is usually reliable for at least 20 feet through walls.

guys I am getting frusted trying to change the delay on shutting off the lights

 the instructions are confusing

do I press and release the the off button after I see the green light or do I wait for it go off

ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/manuals/ms15a-ms16a-is.pdf

The instructions seem clear:

" To change this, Press the House/On button once. The red light flashes. Then, (within 3 seconds) press and hold
the Unit/Off button. The green light turns on. 3 seconds later the red light reports its delay setting, as listed above.
Release and immediately press the Unit/Off button the number of times for the delay you want, as listed above.
Hold the button pressed for 3 seconds on the last press. The red light then reports the setting with the
appropriate number of blinks as above. Release the button. Note: for settings of 2 blinks or higher, the dial on the
top of the unit is disabled."

You wait until the red LED reports the current amount of delay, THEN press the OFF button the required number of times representing the delay you want, and HOLD on the last press. Is this not working for you? It works for my older Eagles, but sometimes X10 changes things without revising the instructions.
