Trouble using more than one house code
« on: February 19, 2009, 07:59:45 AM »

Hello,
I've been using my x10 system (CM15A + ActiveHome) since October with no problems.  I am using house code J and everything seems fine.  I recently decided to start using another house code for some macro triggers which would then call other units on my monitored house code.  When I went to do this, however, I found that somehow my CM15A only hears Housecode J with any reliability.  I can sit in front of the PC watching the activity monitor and press buttons on my palm pad or remote wall switch and the only codes that get received well are the Js.  Anything else I have to hold down for several seconds, and often that doesn't even work.   It does not help anything if I change the tranceived codes or the monitored house code in hardware setup.  It's almost as though it has been dealing with only J codes for such a long time that it can't remember what to do with the other commands.

I do have two tranceivers in the house, and they are both set to J, but I tried changing them to the other house code when sending the test signals from the remotes and it did not improve reception.  (Honestly, one of them is totally out of range anyway; the other one might be close enough to the CM15A, but it doesn't interfere when I send J codes).

I'm sure I left some things out that I've tried-I have spent hours trying to figire this out.  Any advice?  Thank you!

In AHP, under (Tools, Hardware config) do you have all your house codes that you want to use checked in trancieved house codes?

Yeah... this is confusing to me.

If your not having problems... why the two transceivers (besides the CM15A)? Are you having a phase issue?

Having 2 transceivers active on the same house code is never a good idea. I know you stated that this set up was working since October, but this is the type of scenario you will see... was working then not working... not reliable. Having multiple same house code transceivers is just placing a bandaid on a problem as opposed to fixing the real problem.

The CM15A has very poor RF reception. There are many modifications to this problem posted here on the forum. Some are simple external attachments that can be easily tried to test for improvement. I suggest you remove the extra transceiver and do some experimenting with just the CM15A. I'm sure that by itself, with improved reception, it can receive and transceive all the house codes.

Hi. Yes, I have all the housecodes that I want to use set in the Hardware Setup options.  I have two transceivers besides the CM15A just to help with range (the remotes will not work upstairs at all and I put the other on the main floor to help out.)
Just now I left the one on the main floor set to the new house code I want to use and un-checked that code in Hardware Setup and it seems to have improved things.   I will try this for a day and post back if it is still weird.
Thank you for your help,
-Jody
