New RF Icon Remote! [ Just released ]
« on: March 23, 2009, 09:39:49 AM »

I know many have been waiting for this one!
The New RF ICON
The X10 Team didn't rush this one out as many of you know and the beta teams worked hard debugging this one!  #:)
And I suspect the quantity to dwindle quickly! rofl
This truly is a awesome remote! Pare it with the Powermid receiver and I've been able to turn on my stereo from over 100 feet at the cottage.
Sitting on the dock and changing channels, how cool is that?
Pare this remote with PC Companion and you have a remote that can do almost anything!
Why would anyone want the old version(still available) ???

It will nice to finally be able to refer to this awesome remote. Often times I thought that this remote would be the solution to a posters problem. Like a numerically coded security remote for the DS7000

Yes I found my self having to hold back! rofl
The security interface alone is a major selling point!
X10 could have asked much more then the $69,99 for this remote and still out sold the IR Icon. ::) :'

Also please refrain from giving X10 any bad idea's. All there stuff is very HIGH PRICES and should be slashed even more.  :'

What a wonderful life X10 is.

I for one had a great time Beta testing this remote and think it is one of the best things X10 has come out with in a long time.  :)% :)%
This along with the Powermid receiver gives me the ability to controll my home entertainment devices without having to open the glass doors of the cabinet which encloses them.

How cool, a single remote that allows me to controll my TV, stereo, CD player, DVR, cameras and I can even turn the lights on and off without ever leaving the recliner. >!

Actually all beta testers are x10 customers (users).
None of us that have posted so far work for X10!
And yes us beta tester were able to break the Icon but X10 did a good job of working out the Bugs!
I wish I could say all bugs that were reported were fixed  :-[
But I don't have a publicly released Remote. :( Yet
And yes like many testers I will be buying one or two!

Very Understanding and appreciated too.

A quick question.

I presume its not like the old scenario with the remote using the IR543 and limited to one H/C.?  It just communicates with CM15A and AHP directly and one could just programme a botton to corresponding to a Module or Macro in AHP.

Any issues with WGL Transceiver?

Will I need the powermaid if there is no issues with hiding components yet? later maybe thou.

Still no addition of USB port for PC updates?

With this remote your not limited to one housecode! You specify the device and address, assign it a icon and your set!
There should be no issue with the Wgl transceiver as all x10 activity is sent RF although I personally don't have one!
You'll only need the powermid if you wish to control your devices from another room as IR will not pass threw walls. Using the powermid you must set the remote to send RF as well as IR for your entertainment devices!
You must do this for each device you wish to use RF with!

Doubte it, since I wont be saying anything about the new Remote to the rest of the family.
It does look identical to the older one. So getting away with saying anything about a NEW Remote wont be that hard.

for all ya "beta tester dudes",

I bought two Lola remotes (UR89a) thinking that they could do what X10 claimed, but as usual, I was very disappointed. Supposedely, the UR89a can control my cable box, audio system, TV, PC (Lola), and X10 devices. At the end, all it can really do is the following:

* turn on/off my TV and change channels (one by one) & adjust the volume
* turn on/off my cable and change channels (one by one - up and down)
* turn on/off my audio system and adjust volume
* turn on/off X10 devices (one house code) and dim/bright lights, all lights on/off
* turn on/off Lola, navigate, search, play/stop/ff/scan, etc.

At the end, I end up having to use my cable remote to go, say, from channel 4 to 520 unless I want to use the X10 remote and press "channel up" hundreds of times. If I want to use "on demand", I have no choice but to use the cable remote. If I want to bring up the program listing, same thing. What about email? movie info? parental control? play, stop, pause movies? etc., etc.

I have to use my TV remote if I want to change the video source, which I do when I go from DVD to cable, DVR, PIP, etc.

I have to use my audio system remote when I want to go to switch to CD, DVD, cable, TV,, etc. or want to change the sound mode (movie, music, etc.)

BTW, all my devices are well known brands and models (Sony, Toshiba, and Motorola.)

SO, at the end, I really got nothing from the Lola remote even though it was advertised as being the "ultimate" remote for all the above devices. The functionality is SO basic that I hardly ever use it - unless I want to play music from Lola, which actually sucks because it has no clue how to sort music, add tags, create true playlists, etc.. Technically, I just ended up adding yet another remote to my already large collection!

Before I give $70+ more dollars to X10, will this remote TRULY do what it says? Will I be able to do away with all my above remotes (including Lola, since it does nothing for me)?

Can I access ALL the features from ALL my remotes?

TIA,

Frank
