I bought wireless camera and received some time ago, I could never get a good picture.  I moved the camera and receiver, the only way I could get  a picture was to move the wireless camera almost on top of the receiver.  I forget the software, I downloaded several versions before i could get one to move the camera, still picture was terrible.  I finally gave up, never did get the internet software working.  All the equipment is in a box with the rest of junk.   

I would like to purchase the 199. package but if it works like the other camera I bought forget it.   When you are trying to look at the cameras remotely via the internet you need something that is reliable, I can't drive 1200 miles to reset any of the remote equipment.

Also I wonder if the software runs under Vista

I realize this is an old post.  However, i am curious if you have resolved any camera issues.  I recently (3 months ago) purchased the Active Home Pro starter kit with a wireless camera.  The USB converter wasn't recognized by either my XP computer or my Vista computer (both running USB 2.0).  SO I returned it for another, which X10.com replaced.  The camera itself along with the recveiver did work when hooked to a VCR so I was certain it was the adapter.  As you pointed out, the video, even to the VCR was horrible.

When i got the replacement USB converter, my computer installed it as it should, unlike the old one, but yet, I get no picture onto my computer, even with the computer an receiver inches apart.

So I am curious; did you buy more cameras?  Did they work?

Downloading the SimpleVideo tool and running it will tell you whether the problem is with your video-capture device (VA11A or VA12A) or with your other software.  Basicly, if you can see the video-capture device as a hardware choice using SimpleVideo, and you can see the video, then the problem is your other software.  If you can't see the device as a choice in SimpleVideo, then the device did not really install successfully.

Give that a try, then report back here if you're still having problems.

I bought a 6 camera system and found that the cheap rca jacks that come with dont work well at all so replace them with good ones with gold plating which helkps. The video and distance on these is just horrible about 10 feet clear line of site is max and I had to add foil to the reciever to make the dish capture get enough signal to show a recognizeable video image. The camera remote tilt pan device just doesnt work at all un controllable via net or remote. I would reccomend not purchasing these x10 so called wireless cameras but instead pay the extra 100- $200 and get a decent setup as these work spartically and my china made pinhole wireless cmose cameras kill these and they cost lik $10 each and distance is about 100 feet not in line of sight crystal clear in color with sound and run off simple square 9volt battery for 2 weeks easy 24 hours aday..Im not a fan of these so far and until I can be shown they work not a supporter ofthis brand as they are definatly not as claimed also they will interfere with wireless networks and wireless routers if within 20 feet of them.
