General Motion Detection Questions

I have 4 Eagle motion detectors which I am trying to set up in optimal locations for the cameras to catch an intruder. I am using Vanguard as the software.

1) How long after a person walks in front of a detector does it sense the person and activate the camera? I have activated some of them and it seems to never get a picture to me in the emails.

2) Can the detector sense a person thru glass?

3) Does the motion detector need to be near the camera or some other device I got with it?

Overall, I thought that an ideal location would be in an octagonal entry room about 10 feet across that a person would need to go thru to get to anywhere in the house. But when I test it by walking thru the room I do not seem to get a picture of me... just of the room walls. I am beginning to think it should be in a larger room where an intruder would spend some time before I would capture them in a still.

I know I have asked a lot of questions here, but I only have a few more days to get this working before I leave for 2 months!
