Can't make Powerhorn PSH02 Chime
« on: June 10, 2009, 08:58:30 AM »

Hey guys.  I've been having a world of a time getting my X10 Powerhorn PSH02 to work.  I'm planning on having this horn as part of my DIY alarm system using Premise as the device controller.

I've mashed the on/off buttons and never could get it to work.  Finally, I was able to get the siren to sound by sending the All Lights On/Off sequence rather than directly addressing the PSH02.  This is a good thing.  Now I know the horn at least works.

Unfortunately, I would like to use the chime function of this device as well.  From what I have read in the included documentation, I need to turn the device on and then either dim or brighten for the ding or the dong.  As I can't make the siren activate using the House Code/Unit Code of the device, it's no surprise that I can't get the chime to work that way either.

Does anyone have any advice on how to activate the chime?  Is it possible that something is wrong with my PSH02?  Should I be able to address it directly by sending X10 commands to it's House code/Device code?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I didn't know it was supposed to chime, but then I have a PH508.  I also have a PHH02 that does chime.  Is the PSH02 a model that combines BOTH functions ?

The Large Powerhorn PH508 does not have that feature. The SH10A, Small Powerhorn does or did. Now that X10 seems to be redesigning modules as older parts are hard to find. Things may have changed.

Mine that are a few years old; all trigger on both the On/Off cycle for its address and the All Lights On/ All Lights Off cycle for the House Code. Mine also ding and dong after being sent a single On command and then a set of dim and bright commands.

dinki; Welcome to the X10 forums. We have been corresponding on this issue; in the CocoonTech forums; where I am BLH.

From what I have read, the PSH02 is the sames the SH10A.  From the product manual:

Quote
You can use the SH10A as an annunciator: Press Unit Code-ON, on any
X10 Controller and then press Dim or Bright. You will hear a ding or a dong
for each button press.

I've read posts of folks with the PSH02 being able to use it as a chime as well as a siren.

I've read posts of folks with the PSH02 being able to use it as a chime as well as a siren.

From the PSH02 manual:
Annunciator Mode - performed by any type X10 Controller
1. Send an X10 ON Command at the siren's set address, i.e. - "A1"
2. Then send an X10 Brighten/Dim Command Cycle. Brighten emits a High Pitched Chime, Dim emits a Low Pitched Chime.

If you have a Maxi Controller set it to the House code of the PSH02 and then try pressing * ON and then * BRI.

Where * means the unit code for the PSH02.

Otherwise, you may have a dud.

I'm starting to think that this may be the case.  I've ordered another one with hopes that I can get it to work as advertised.  *sigh*
