Hello....Last weekend my sons atv was stolen from a detached open carport about 75' off the end of our house. I'm just lucky that was all that was stolen as i also had to new riding mowers right next to the atv. I would like to get some information from someone knowledgeble about what would be the best way to secure this area. I would rather use lights rather than cameras because i have an x-10 camera that i bought about 5 yrs ago and the video is ok in the day time but would be useless at night if more than 10'. Would like to have something that would scare the hell out of them and would alarm me if i was asleep....thanks

I use and REALLY like the X10 floodlights! I say lightS because I use more that one. As a matter of fact I could play night touch football in my backyard... if I wasn't so old and fat. Enough light... and all cameras work well.. but I also like having a big clunky IR camera sitting around (they glow pinkish-red too). Nobody wants to steal TV's (or mowers) while on camera.

The X10 floodlights also control up to 4 other codes when they detect motion. So you can turn on lights... or a chime inside to let you know you have.. activity.

I went a bit further... and I use a voice announcement with my system. You can see it here on my YouTube Video. The announcement is played outside as well.

There are repeaters and modifications to the antenna of the CM15A or CM19A... or the whole house receiver.

As a test awhile back I tried the "coat hanger mod". Cut about a foot of straight wire out of the bottom section of a standard wire coat hanger. Then with black electrical tape, fasten the foot long coat hanger wire directly to the plastic antennae of the CM15A. I couldn't believe the difference this made in my X10 range, especially for remotes that didn't send a very strong signal to begin with. Now my stick-on wall switches and keychain remotes work as I initially expected them to.
Why the makers of X10 don't make this cheap mod before packaging is beyond me. It would make for many happier customers.

Or as I call it, The Department of Homeland (doesn't that sound right out of Nazi Germany?) INsecurity.  The 3 Stooges could do better.
I don't SELL this stuff... BUT I sure do ENJOY using it!!!
