window sensors
« on: September 14, 2009, 11:21:35 AM »

Still looking at all the systems and options.  I have a few windows with 2 panes that slide open from each end.  Is it possible to use just 1 sensor to control these 2 sliders?

Thanks

Yes is possible to use one DS10 and two magnetic switch assemblies. Depending upon whether the switch Assemblies are N.O. or N.C. style (normally open - normally closed) you might be able to pick the extra switch at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Closed loop security systems use N.C. and that is likely the style you will find at a Lowes, etc, but since X10 typically only use one switch per sensor (transmitter) they may use N.O. style switches. I am sure there are other forum users who know for sure, but the answer to your question is "yes".

Here is the X10 wiki information on using two magnetic switches on one window or door sensor.

From the picture it looks like an easy hookup.  So I would need 2 extra magnetic switches per window?

Thanks for the info.

No one magnetic switch comes with the DS10A. If you have two sliders then all you would need is one additional magnetic switch.

You may also have to get some two conductor wire. To go from the second switch to the DS10A and supplied switch.
X10s diagram shows one of the wires from the module going to the added switch. In almost all installations that will not work as the wire is not long enough. You will have to add wire to reach the added switch.
